Not every type of material can be recycled. During the recycling process, materials are usually broken down (usually be melting) into their basic raw material (plastic, glass, metal etc.) and then formed into new products. The prefix re- in recycling means again, in this case meaning that the material will be made into some new again.

Upcycling - This is a way of reusing materials or items rather than throwing them in the trash. This is a type of recycling where a material or object is turned into a better-quality item. When you upcycle, you usually use an object for its original purpose but make it even better by repainting it, adding new features, or make it easier to use. An example could be if someone uses old paint chip samples to create a piece of wall art.

Repurposing - This is another way of reusing materials or items rather than throwing them in the trash. When you repurpose a material, you use it for something totally different than its original use.
