According to the author, the founding fathers believed the same as Thomas Hobbes in the sense that all men are evil, and only act for self interest. 
2. The Founding Fathers created a government that would consider its people at topmost priority. Also just like how Calvnists believed in the separation of church and state, the Fathers wanted a neutral position on religion, and thus kept it seperate from the government.

The idea of 'liberty' was tied to the ownership of property rather than the freedom to live life in pursuit of personal happiness.
