I included the cloud of rain to represent the good being brought but also can bring bad. The sunlight is power coming onto the person on the rocks that represent Okonkwo as a powerful leader who is independent . The necklace around the arm represent how he doesn’t want Christianity to spread its show how the arm is holding on to hold back the bad of Christianity. The drawing with the mask and etc explains the culture in Africa and what it’s going to be reveal throughout.

This represents Okonkwo vs his Chi. This is a large part of the book because Okonkwo is driven by his chi throughout the book to become better. Also, he gave up on his chi and that is one of the reasons he killed the man and this caused his downfall. It is upside down and inverted colors because the chi is a different and opposite side of them.

The cover shows the large spread of Christianity in Africa, it is literally falling from the skies in the image. Many are excited about the spread and are seen as jumping in joy. However, there is one man who is not so excited. He is the man holding the umbrella, and this shows that he does not want Christianity to spread. This man is supposed to represent Okonkwo. One other major thing it shows is that the Christians are unstoppable. You can’t control the rain at your own will, you can really only protect yourself and a few others from it, but some are destined to be rained on. Last of all it relates to the good and bad aspects of Christians. Just like missionaries rain can bring good things, such as nourishing plants; however it can also bring bad things, such as floods. The rain represents the spread of Christianity and how no one is immune to it no matter how hard you try.

In my cover I included a red sunset to represent fire and ash. This also represents Okonkwo and Nwoye. The landscape is a silhouette to represent a shadow, or the past. The tree also represents Okonkwo, a strong leader who stands alone and above everyone else, but he has given into his weakness. The noose foreshadows the ending, it also represents fear and weakness.

The background of this cover is a distorted puzzle. The reason for this was to show how something that was once in unison can break apart, emphasizing the title Things Fall Apart. The next part of the cover is a tree, the tree is there to represent the evil forest and how it was a root of the ibo culture and their connection with their gods. However, the tree is not full of leaves and beautiful rather it is bare, showing the effect the Christian missionaries had on the village. At the bottom of the image there are two people, they are supposed to be Okonkwo and Nwoye. The man on the right is standing up straight and confident is Okonkwo. While the other is walking away and slouched who is Nwoye.

I chose a egwugwu mask as the centerpiece of my cover to foreshadow Enoch's sins at the end of the novel as well as provide an immediate image of Igbo culture. I think my cover lends itself to a Achebe's message that European's have entirely characterized Africa by immediately demonstrating that the Igbo people do, in fact have a deep culture by providing an example of their religion.

I chose to have the sunset because the colors symbolize the blue (peacefulness) going into red (power) that was changed by the colonists. Although everything in the "sunset" is the same, the British' impact came down like "rain" and that made the tribe loose their traditions. Since the two aspects are layered together, it would symbolize that whether the colonists came or not, their culture would still occur, but the impact of the colonists keeps coming down, no matter what.

I chose a picture of a locust swarm because it shows both the Ibo culture and how the white people came in and took over. The line through the middle that separates the color and the black and white cuts through the boy who is running through the swarm. This shows how the Ibo people are transitioning from their culture (the colored part) to a lack of their culture and more of the white mans culture (the black and white part)

Ahhh... One begins by asking the mild questions. What its happening? And Why?
Firstly, the lettering of the title was done by hand after taking a photo and without a stylus. It is known that the artist was inspired by the abstract art form only to move towards figurative art in the final product (see below). One may find themselves awe struck as they gaze upon the complexity of the image. It should be noticed that yams seem to fall below what appears to be a sun. This movement in an otherwise still piece is interesting to say the least. Below the falling yams- a tree and on its flanks a pot (of palm wine) and a bowl (of foo-foo). The food and beverage items are all important to the Igbo culture and thus important to depict in the image. A cloud appears above the sun, the illustration of tension and foreboding. Originally the image was to be flipped. The hazy cloud was to be palm wine around a bowl with yams coming out of it. The bowl to the right of the tree was to be to foo-foo in the sky like a sun (abstract--I know). The inversion of the picture may be most telling as the artist and his dreams fell apart and a 180 degree change was necessary (make of that what you will). Anyways I had fun throwing this post together.

I made this image because I think the whole book was supposed to show the culture of Ibo people. I think one of the main points is how other cultures censor because of how the ending portrayed the story the shift of perspective and the title of the book that he was writing shows how the events that took place will be viewed by the people in Europe. The culture of the Ibo people will be known as a sort of savagery and undeveloped.

I suck at drawing so I don’t know why I didn’t do it online. 😂 This image is Okonkwo feeling trapped above some of the major themes of the book. Gender, sin, family, and reputation. These play a large role in the majority of the book as this well- known man loses all parts of his identity from the mistakes he makes.

My cover for Things Fall Apart focuses on the influence that the colonizers have on the Ibo society. To show this, the white figure in the middle of the cover represents the colonizers which is emitting a shadow to represent the influence it has over most of the clan, especially when it comes to religion. The figures behind it are the converts from the clan who follow in the ways which the white men brought with them. The lone figure at the bottom represents Okonkwo because he is a strong believer in the Ibo culture and its traditions. This is to show how he rebukes the white man's way of life and refuses to join those who blindly follow seen through his violent actions and thoughts against them.

My new cover idea for Things Fall Apart portrays some of what I felt were the main themes in the story. I illustrated the there of betrayal by drawing Ikemefuna laying dead with a machete in his back. Okonkwo betrayed him and betrayed himself. Then I drew Okonkwo with a crown on his head looking over the villiage at all the people and huts. He has a crown because he tried all his life to be the best of the best and the strongest man he could be. He wanted to lead.

The big huge crack in the upper right represents how things go down hill, this is also why I made the cover will fall slanted. The faces represents Okonkwo's Chi as through out the novel is seen as a downfall. The red face that has a crack to show how his fate was not good. The fire and the clothing snd necklace show Okonkwo. The accessories as show him and the fire show his rage. The fire can also be interpreted as things not going correctly and tragedy.

My new cover of Things Fall Apart is a dry setting that is flipped upside down foreshadowing events to come in the book. It may give the reader a hint that there will be struggle and conflict to come. I also put people figures following each other while getting smaller. I felt this represented some of the characters. This could show the influence the colonizers had on the Igbo culture. This also could represent why Okonkwo acts the way he does. The figures could symbolize Okonkwo walking away from his father. Okonkwo hates the way his father lived which makes him so intense in the book. I think my cover appeals to the characters and plot of the book.

My book cover is about one of the main themes in Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe. Yam in this story are of great significance because they represent wealth and masculinity to the Umuofia clan. The Umuofia organize their celebrations and daily lives around this crop. The crop is considered a mans job to grow because it is so difficult, and if you can grow it you gain respect.

My cover represents Okonkwo as a person. Okonkwo struggles a lot during his life and this represents the darkness of his life, where he is trying to find the "light at the end of the tunnel". Something else that this cover represents is a main part of the novel, when Okonkwo is banished. This image portrays how everyone wanted him to leave and how hurt he was to have to leave the village he's lived in forever.

My book cover shows a tree with the noose attached to it which represents the loss of Okonkwo. There is also the cross which resembles Christianity, because that had a big part to do with the book towards the end. There is a mask as well because it represents the Igbo Culture. The background of all of the items is very dark and gloomy, I believe it represents the deep meaning behind the book, which is death.
