November 2, 1963- After the U.S. withdraws its support for Ngo Dinh Diem, he is assassinated by his own generals. Significance- 16,000 U.S. military personnel are in Vietnam, and 200 have been killed.
March 16, 1968- As many as 500 unarmed villagers are killed by U.S. Army troops in the hamlet of My Lai.

First, because the U.S and the USSR supported opposite sides of the Vietnam war; North Vietnam and South Vietnam. Next, the U.S and the USSR disagreed on whether communism should or should not be spread. The relationship between the U.S and Vietnam is good and they are allies which shows that the surrogate war-affected present day in a good way.
