SMART boards have come to replace regular dry erase boards and dry erase boards replaced chalkboards. The SMART board is a digital board that is being used in schools throughout the country. They have evolved tremendously even from when I was in middle school. Each SMART board comes with two or so markers that are used to write on the boards and solve problem. Now, these smart boards have LED screens which makes it easier for the students to see and keeps them engaged more because of the vibrant colors. Also students are able to connect their own personal device to the
board and edit right from their seats. Teachers are also able to search the internet and pull it up on the board. The SMART board keeps the child engaged and makes learning fun.
http://www.teachhub.com/technology-classroom-benefits-smart-boards
As a student of Ole Miss, I pledge to uphold the honesty and integrity of myself, my peers, and my university.

They are able to interact with what is on the table so that helps them pay attention. The students can engage in different activities that are set up on the table. I think it is great because students can work together on an activity and try to figure out different problems as a team. Eight different people can use it at the same time and the teacher can create lessons to go on the table.
As a student of Ole Miss, I pledge to uphold my myself, my peers and my university.
Caroline Alston
https://ivci.com/product/smart-table442i-collaborative-learning-center/

This allows teachers to be more efficient with their time in the classroom. These devices could range anywhere from $100-$600 depending on the quality of your document camera.

They use a software called Casper Suite which is a Mobile Device Management program installed on all the Macbook laptops that are provided for the students. Basically what it does is allows the administrators of the school to control the settings of the device, monitor the activity, and send out software updates. With this, they are allowed to block certain sites from being accessible such as Facebook and Twitter. Blocking certain sites allows the student to focus on their studies while also keeping them safe while in school.
As a student of Ole Miss I pledge to uphold the honesty and integrity of myself, my peers, and my university

The past two years they have begun to use the Remind App. This is an app that teachers can use to remind students/parents of any upcoming events or assignments. Each teacher can send out these reminders for all of their classes. This is a great way to keep parents in the loop of what is going on at school.
https://www.remind.com/teachers

As a student of Ole Miss, I pledge to uphold the honesty and integrity of myself, my peers, and my university.
Presley Pannell

Sometimes the most simplest forms of technology are the ones we use the most. Children now-a-days know how to work an IPad, IPhone or Computer about the same time they learn how to take their first steps. For that reason, teachers are bringing these items that the children understand so well into their classrooms. The theory is that if the students know how to use these forms of technology so well, it should be easy for them to learn information from them. For myself, anytime I need to get something done, I always look and see if there is an App that uses a game to gain the information better. I love being on my phone; so if I can be on my phone and learn information at the same time... it's a win win.

As a student of Ole Miss, I pledge to uphold the honesty and integrity of myself, my peers, and my university.
Trey Skocy

My high school and middle school was a technology school. When I was in 5th grade I got a laptop from the school. Everyone got one, we all had to pay for it but we all got the same PC. We used this laptop in class to take notes, complete homework, write our essays, and complete assignments. This computer was required for everyday use. There was a tech lab at our school so if we ever had a problem with our laptop someone could help. When I got into high school I ditched my PC and finally got a Mac. A lot of other students did that as well. When I was a junior in high school my math teacher made us scan all of our homework to him. We had to download Genius Scan App on our phones and we would take a picture of our homework and it would scan it to him. He did this so he didn't have to keep up with papers. Now a lot of my teachers just have me email assignments to them so they do not have to keep up with paper. This makes it easier on me and the teacher because we are not passing back and forth paper.

In elementary school, the use of a chalk board was very common. Eventually, it faded away but still in use by some educators. The dry-erase board became easier and cleaner to use. To make it more easier the use of a projector and powerpoints have became the common approach for most educators. It is beneficial to a certain extent. Students nowadays carry their laptops or tablets to class and take notes that way. I still write my notes out and review the instructor powerpoints. Writing the notes or information makes you retain it a little more than typing it out in my opinion. As a student of Ole Miss, I pledge to uphold the honesty and integrity of myself, my peers, and my university. -Shayla Campbell

The iPad is small so it is easy for a child to hold while they explore and learn. Ipads are great for older kids, too. It gives easy access to web search for educational information, spell check, and even a thesaurus for students to find the meaning of or learn new words. The iPad is organized and helps the teacher to keep up with testing and scores without all the pesky hardcopy’s. iPad's connect to whiteboards for a furthered learning experience.

This past semester I was in a class at Ole Miss that was called a distance learning class. What this was, was a class that was streamed to you online. You were in one classroom while the teacher was at another location. There was a screen at the front of the classroom and you could see the teacher and all the other classrooms that were streaming as well. There was a camera at the front of the room of each classroom so the other locations could see them, and you had microphones at your desk that you could press when you wanted to talk. Come to find out, my brother, who is in high school was also in one of these classes and he said it was extremely similar to what mine was. I found where they call these classes eLearning classes. These types of classes are beneficial because it allows more students to be reached by one teacher simply by streaming live video. It is also more interactive than you would think and allows the teacher to be at multiple places at once.
As a student of Ole Miss, I pledge to uphold the honesty and integrity of myself, my peers, and my university.
Lauren Koon

eLearning Learning

CORPORATE ELEARNING INSIGHTS YOUR PEERS ARE READING

brought to you by

In a lot of classrooms today, there are smart boards or over head projectors. I remember when i was in grade school all we had were chalk boards and we were just starting to get dry erase boards. We had those little projectors that set on a rolling table and you had to have the laminate sheets to put on the table and it project itself onto the wall. I also remember using floppy disks a lot.

One especially interesting educational technology I discovered was Lessoncast. Lessoncast is a site where teachers from all over can come together and share advice, strategies, lesson plans, and developmental progress with other teachers from all over. It was founded by a principal who was given the task of helping teachers in her school develop professionally, and she discovered that networking among other teachers was an extremely beneficial way to do so. I am sure that when I'm a teacher, I will need some big help from other teachers, and it is encouraging to me to know that sites like Lessoncast exist! I am sure this site is working to better schools by starting with the teachers and providing them with more tools to better educate students.
As a student at Ole Miss, I pledge to uphold the honesty and integrity of myself, my peers, and my University.
Catherine Harmon

https://www.lessoncast.com/

During my K-12 school years, I went to Madison County Schools. Madison County is all about technology. I remember in fifth grade when all the classrooms got Interactive Whiteboards. It came with a special pen and the teacher had an object that looked like a tablet. That table gave the teacher opportunity to write on it and it would project on the interactive whiteboard. The interactive whiteboard serve the same purpose as the chalk board. I remember my teacher would project our worksheets on the interactive whiteboard and would allow students to come up to the board to work out problems. The interactive whiteboard was a great invention. It keeps students engaged because it not just a black board with white writing but it's a board with multiple colors and lighting.
As a student at Ole Miss, I pledge to uphold the honesty and integrity of myself, my peers, and my university.
Ariel Spencer
https://education.smarttech.com/products/smart-board-800
