Starting with differences, the main one that stood out to me was obviously one had musical background added into the poem and one didn't. Similarities are that the guy was very emotional and expressive which made you understand everything he was signing throughout the poem. the meaning I got from both of the poems was that he felt trapped in the begging then towards the end he felt free like a bird. I related it to his background story of his childhood experience with feeling alone then once he found poetry he felt free. In the silence I felt related and very focused on him. With the music , I felt more emotion though the poem. But in the story Anya seems very strong and set on her life goals, yet she is stuck in this toxic relationship. Anya wants to make the relationship permanent but she also sees the abuse. Later in the story, once she puts a restraining order on him after he almost slammed her head on the dash of the car, she ends up seeing him at a park. he approaches her and askes to give her a ride home , and she accepted it. Both of those quotes reference the fact that a family should have unity and work together as a team. 
Narrator: when reading this story, I noticed that the narrator is switching back and froth between third and first person. The narrator uses the pronouns: He, I and they. It is based around the thoughts of losing identity and trying to find it in themselves. It seems as if they use the people or things around them to satisfy what they are missing. 
I think the author is trying to communicate the feeling of hopelessness and how someone's life can get turned around very fast. For me personally, I define my faith by both religion and hope within myself. Religion is a key part of my everyday life and how I approach every situation I come up across. It teaches me patience, trustfulness, and rights from wrongs. It makes you more aware of your actions and how they would affect your future for the good and the bad. For the hope side of my faith, I think of it as never ending will to always improve myself. One of the assumptions on the power point was, we learn snout others we learn about ourselves. I connected that with how human activities are interconnected with how the author had his friend tell him how it made her feel uncomfortable reading the play. The author took that in consideration and worked together to change the poem to help get the right felling across to the readers. (pg.6)
The next one is admitting to his own prejudices. He talks about how the first version of the play is not what he intended for people to portray the play. So he revised to so it gave the story line of two people awakening in love and the glory of East falling for Glory. It's as if humans were thought to be from the actual land and not from a higher power, connecting to the whole theory of ecocriticism. First, was a stage where he was always exploring and didn't worry about much. To always worrying about his family back home that he had to move away from. The most obvious symbol was the candy he kept giving to the little girl every time he saw her. It made them build a bond then at the end when he had to go back home, she threw the whole stash away. In the second half it is more from the coloreds point, how they were getting abused by the whites and how they need protection. Elba asks a ton of questions on why Yvette is in the wrong line, and if they were to stay there they could get in trouble. That is an example of an out-groups action and words. 
The teacher that asked Yvette if she was Jewish and if not then why was she in that lunch line. That is a form of out-group because the teacher was trying to make sure the rules were followed. 
Mrs. Ralston was a In-group I this situation because she wanted what was best for the kid and the rules came second. 
It effected the girls in a way that they understood the domino effect this had on other people too. Plus if it were happen again they would have bigger problems to face. It shows that no matter where you are never safe, you have to be watching your back.
