         <title>Differentiation</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Vocabulary- I either give the word in a sentence, or have the students read the sentence again before talking about what the word means in context.&nbsp; I then have them try to think of a sentence that they can use the word in, or I have them try to act out the word. It's fun to see what they come up with when they act!&nbsp;<br>Comprehension- I use question stems,&nbsp; narration, Venn Diagrams/story maps, a question to think about before they read, and stopping periodically through the passage to recap what has just happened.&nbsp;<br>Decoding- I use text that is below their reading level, I play games such as "my pile, your pile", and work on &nbsp; fluency reading.&nbsp;<br>-Anna</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>We use Jenn Jones (Hello Literacy) listening games which are quick verbal games dealing with 16 phonological awareness skills. These really help our struggling readers as we practice these skills daily. I also use a lot of tactile movements for decoding, such as stretching out sounds down your arm or using the pads of your fingers and sweeping across at the end.&nbsp;<br>For comprehension, I use questions stems and I use a lot of modeling. Showing them what it looks like to think critically about a text and referring back to the text really helps my students. Since they are so young, they need a lot of explicit modeling and practice. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>To help students with vocabulary and comprehension, I focus on strategies readers use to understand words and messages from a text. Visualizing, Context Clues, Inferences are some of the main strategies I find to be effective. Many of my students have a difficult time making inferences which can help them comprehend a text on a deeper level. I also like doing close reading activities with my students who need help with comprehension- read the same text several times and look for different things each time- main idea, character traits, problem and solution, etc. </div>]]></description>
