Can we talk about the beginning half of the film?? Perms at 2-3 years old? It’s interesting to hear older people talk about this topic because growing up I never really understood the severity of perms(if it is severe in your eyes). Honestly, I seen people around me in elementary school get perms but I never thought too much of it because I was groomed to hate my curls so seeing straight hair ( even after wetting your hair) didn’t alarm me I thought it was normal. Nonetheless, I never had a perm but, I did always wanted my hair straight like the perm girly! I was jealous my hair curled up when it got wet.

As a little, Black girl, I was happy that I got to see a representation of my myself while reading this book. I think this book perfectly represents the hairstyles that young, Black girls wear. I didn't know that hair products were unique to different hair types until I got to college......I remember I was at a friend house and they only had Cantu and im using this product and im like something isn't right but nonetheless I don't think too much on it. Then, this same friend asked me could she do a twist out on my hair and results were HORRIBLE! and im just like oh no you can never touch my hair again. She was like I think it's the products you may have to find something for your hair type and she started asking me about my hair. Honestly I was so confused I went home that night and started researching hair types and the best products for them. After that, I went on a journey to find the best hair care line for my hair type and I started embracing my natural hair on this journey.

At first I thought the title was a joke. I was sadly mistaken. The mom in the video started off by saying “It’s been a full year that I’ve been a mom, even though y’all tried to get DCFS to take my child away.” Well I have an idea why. Locs vs Dreads

According to Google, Dreads are not cultivated while Locs are. Cultivated is defined as refined and well educated. When I look up just the word “dreads” I see pictures of a lot of white people and dread extensions. While when l look up "locs” I see the more typical Locs, shoulder length, real fresh.

I don’t know when we as a community stopped using the word dreads but I was told the reason is because the word is rooted in slavery. Calling black people hair dreadful.

I'm going through an era of I HATE HEATT. Back in September, I got a silk press and sadly the person that did it damaged random sections in my head so sadly some of my curls just won't come back. The myth behind heat damaged hair is that the curls will bounce back to full health and in reality it won't entirely. I hate how people make money off of telling people the secrets of repairing their hair when the real repair is to cut it off and start over.

I use to think that code switching was only exclusive to how some black people talked, but it’s bigger than how some communicate with racial outsiders. Code switching can cause some to change their physical appearance which may take a toll on some people’s mental health.

Lol what do you all think about this? Sometimes it sees exhausting having to adhere to all these new rules and procedures to maintain "healthy" hair. It seems like everyday I hear another protective style has been found to actually not be protective and somewhat damaging.

I'll never forget it was Easter Sunday at my grandma house and everybody was in the kitchen getting their hair done. I was being impatient so, I asked my cousin could she hotcomb my hair instead of my grandma. This girl took the hot comb right off the stove and put it on my hair. When I say my hair start sizzling and burnt off I was crying so bad!!! and I was scared to tell my mom the back of my hair had got burned off lolll. I really hate people doing my hair now.

I seen a tiktok saying that we ruined salon culture because we are impatient now lol.... The person stated that it was a good time being in the salon from sun up to sun down......I don't know I just think time is money and nobody wants to wait all day to get their hair done.
