Shang Dynasty: 1700 BCE - 1122 BCE

~ The Shang Dynasty was the bronze age of the Chinese civilizations. It was also the first real city in East Asia. The Shang state probably made the rules based on their religion. Many of the rulers at this time period ruled their territories independently. The writing system of this time period is essential for modern Chinese script. Their religion and culture were brought to many different places. Finally, they were not the biggest city.

Zhou Dynasty: 1045 BCE - 256 BCE

~ The Zhou Dynasty replaced the Shang Dynasty. This Dynasty ruled for around 800 years making it the longest ruling dynasty. They started using ox drown plows for the first time in China, they also used large-scale irrigation for farming. They had begun using iron and crossbows. They used horseback riding for travel and communication. Finally, there were important philosophers that helped to develop schools such as Confucianism, Daoism, and Legalism.

Warring States Period: 700 BCE - 221 BCE

~ This was a time period when China was made of 7 or more small feuding Chinese kingdoms. There weren't many large political units during this time period. Over 1,500,000+ died because of the fighting that happened during the Warring States. Finally, because of the wars many of the armies grew stronger and larger.

Confucianism and Daoism Developed: 500 BCE

~ This was a time of great creativity in China's history. The cities during this time period had well-developed armies and taxing. This dynasty expanded the city's borders further. They had put pressure on smaller groups because they could be invaded and absorbed. This time period had invented cast irons and metal coins.

Legalism Developed: 250 BCE

~ During this time period the idea of rewards and punishments was introduced to China. The legalists of this time period believed in strict laws, harsh punishments, firm management, and people being bad. Finally, many of these laws and rules where harsh and brutal.

Qin Dynasty: 221 - 210 BCE

~ During this empire emperor Qin wanted around 8,000 Terra-Cotta warriors to protect him. This time period invented the umbrella and a writing system that was standardized for the government. Finally, this empire had started the Great Wall of China.

Han Dynasty: 206 BCE - 220 CE

~ This empire has expanded its borders on all fronts. This empire also marked the highest point in ancient China. The commerce and industry flourished, and the agriculture expanded. Finally, this dynasty was one of the first empires to establish the Chinese Civil Service for the government.
