Introducing new friends. 

Teacher explains that today they are going to talk about ladybugs and go over the body parts of an insect – head, thorax & abdomen.

Two children are seen participating by using arm and hand movements to the song. 

Teacher tells her new students that they go over important rules. Stop the germs – we wash our hands – we use soap and water

Whenever you go outside to play, use the restroom or poke our noise, you need to wash your hands. Wear a mask and use hand  sanitizer. 

Commitments – listening ears, kind words – be kind to your friends and family, helping hands – help around the house. 

Teacher goes over the day of the week and day which is Tuesday April 20^th.

Teacher talks about insects and that they have three body parts. 

The morning message is "Insects begin with I." She shows the children how to spell and write letter I by also showing capital I and lower-case i. Says I is also a vowel, a e i o u. 

She tells them to start writing the letter I. One child gets a marker and starts writing with his left hand. Another child shows the teacher she wrote the word insect. She goes over how an insect has three body parts: head, thorax and abdomen. 

Then the teacher starts showing them little stuff animals and asking them, "Is this an insect?" Shows a bee. One child says "Yes!" "Is a zebra an insect?," one child says "No." "Is this an insect?," shows a spider, "No, it is a bug." 

Then the teacher goes over the picture of a bee that they drew yesterday.

Entomologist is the study of insects. 

Tells them to get a piece of paper and markers and has them write their name first. One child looks focused while writing with support from mom while drawing a ladybug. Teacher explains that ladybugs have six legs and black dots. 

Two children show their writing and drawing of ladybug and the teacher draws a star and happy face on her white board for them.

She wears two different puppets on both hands. One ladybug on one hand and one spider puppet on the other hand. She asks the children, “Which one is an insect, and which one is a bug?”

Teacher says, "Today is April 22^nd, it is Thursday. The day before Friday. It is almost Friday."

She goes over on how to stop the germs. She asks, "How do we stop the germs?" One child says, “Wash our hands!”

The teacher says, "Yes! Wash your hands with soap and water and do not forget to wear a mask." 

She goes over the commitments that they do everyday which is helping hands and that means to help your families and use kind words. She asks the children, "Who remembers a kind word?" One child says, "Helping." One friend said, "Be nice." Then she explains they need to have listening ears which means to use our ears to listen to mom and dad. 

She talks about insects and bug and how they are not the same. 
She says the morning message which is "Dragonfly begins with D." She shows them the letter D.

This is an insect (shows a drawing of a bee). It has 3 body parts – head, thorax and abdomen. 

She starts telling them they are going to talk about the dragonfly.

She plays a video called "Dragonfly" on Youtube. She explains that dragonflies are different colors.

She has them get their favorite color and get ready to draw a dragonfly. They draw the head first, then the thorax, the abdomen and then the wings. 

One child is looking at the teacher’s instruction and drawing at the same time. Another child is using an orange crayon to draw her dragonfly. A third child is working hard by using a green crayon with her right hand while holding the paper with her left hand. A fourth child I saw is using a red crayon drawing from side to side on the paper. 
Then after they showed their drawings, the teacher plays another video. The Alphabet for Kids Youtube video. One child is seen singing along to the video saying the ABC’s. 

Is this an insect? Children say no when she shows a ball or car. Shows a spider and says no its not an insect. Shows an ant and children say yes. An ant is an insect because it has three body parts and six legs. 

Kiss your brain after the children got the answer correctly. She asked is this an insect showing a worm and they said no, it’s a bug.

She explains that tomorrow they are going to make a graph. What is a bug and what is an insect? She asked them to make sure to think of one insect or bug to tell her tomorrow so they can add to the graph. 

She plays a book – Backyard Bugs read aloud on YouTube. She asks them, "Have you been looking for insects at home?" After the story she says goodbye.

She explains today is Friday April 23^rd. 

She tells the children they are going to have a drive-thru next Wednesday with materials that they will use in class. 

Shows what they made Monday, a bee, Tuesday, a ladybug and Thursday, a dragonfly.

Reminds them that their homework is to tell her what an insect is and what is a bug.

She plays a “Hello” song on Youtube and plays the song “Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes” on Youtube. 

After the song, she says, “How do we stop the germs?”

Children show her by showing both their hands rubbing together.

Teacher explains do not forget to wear your mask and use a little bit of sanitizer. She goes over the commitments: listening ears, helping hands, and kind words.

She explains they are going to do a breathing strategy because the new students do not know them. 

The teacher says, “How do we do the balloon?” She says it is like you are blowing a balloon. 

The teacher asks them, “How do you feel today?” One child shows they are happy today by smiling. Another child unmutes and says, “I am happy.” She asks each child how they are feelings, and some answered, and some nodded their heads after she would ask, “Are you happy?” Another child says, “I am sleepy.” 

She goes over the morning message, which says, “Termites begin with T.” One child shouts out “T!” before the teacher says the letter Termite begins with. The teacher writes the letter T in capital and lowercase form to show children how to write the letter T. She asks the children to write the letter T. 

She explains that they are going to learn about termites. She explains how termites are almost similar to ants, but they are different because they eat wood. She puts a video about termites on Youtube. 

She shows a plastic ant and goes over the three body parts – head, thorax, and abdomen. She explains they are insects. She draws on the whiteboard showing where the ant lives underground. She explains how they come out when they smell something sweet. 

She shows a butterfly that she found in her backyard. She encourages them to study and observe bugs or insects in their backyard, but do not harm them. 

She brings out her chart that shows Bugs & Insects and starts asking children who wants to go first. One child says, “A butterfly!” Another child says, “Cockroach.” Another child says, “A butterfly” and the teacher tells her to say another one since her friend said butterfly already and she said, “Ladybug!” Another child says, “A rollie pollie!” and the teacher explains a rollie pollie is a bug and not an insect. Teacher tells the children, “Kiss your brain. You are so smart.”

She plays a video about ants on Youtube and then puts a story on Youtube called, “Hey, little ant.” One child is looking at the screen listening to the story.

Teacher shows a butterfly finger puppet to introduce what they are going to be talking about today. 

She plays the hello song on Youtube. One child is seen participating by moving both arms up to the hello song while singing. After she puts the freeze dance song on Youtube. Three of the children stand up and start jumping when the song says to jump. 

The teacher goes over the day of the week and day which is April 26^th. 

Metamorphosis is the word of the week. She explains it means is the process of transformation. Stage 1, stage 2, stage 3 and stage 4. 

The morning message today is “Caterpillars know how to eat.” She explains how they will learn about butterflies and metamorphosis. 

Wash hands especially before we are going to hold babies (since one child just welcomed his baby brother recently) and remember the commitments: listening ears and has children show their listening ears.

The teacher shows a leaf with little eggs and then shows what hatches from the eggs which is a caterpillar. Then says the caterpillar will eat and eat and turn into a cocoon/chrysalis and then turn into a butterfly. She tells the children they are going to make their own butterfly cycle on paper. She explains that the cycle is a circle. She asks them how many body parts an insect has and what they are. She goes over how an insect has three body parts. Teacher plays a video about the metamorphosis of a monarch butterfly.

Plays the “Good morning Mr. Rooster” song/video on Youtube. The second video she plays is the “Freeze Dance.” One child is seen moving side to side with the music. Another child is seen hopping in her seat when the song says, “Hopping, hopping. . .” 

The teacher says, “How do we keep the germs away?” Some of the children show by showing both hands scrubbing each other. She explains not to use too much hand sanitizer because it can dry out their hands. 

Commitments: helping hands, listening ears and use kind words. She explains to use kind words and be kind in this world and to remember to be respectful to each other.

Word of the week is entomology. Entomology is the stages such as the stages of a butterfly. She shows them two models of a butterfly and a moth and tells the children they are different. She goes over the three body parts of an insect which is the head, thorax and abdomen. She shows the story of the Very Hungry Caterpillar and tells them they are going to draw about it. She brings out a board showing two insects they are going to learn about today, a grasshopper and a cricket. She explains that they are going to talk about what is the same and what are the differences. Some of the children said, “the legs.”

She puts a Youtube video on about crickets. Teacher asks them to draw a caterpillar and to draw a butterfly. One of the children showed her what he drew. He said he drew a snail and she ask him if he knows how to draw a butterfly and he says, “Yes.” He then shows her the butterfly he drew. He made the head, thorax, abdomen and two wings. He added grass under the butterfly with a one flower sticking from the grass. She puts the story on Youtube, “The Very Quiet Cricket.”
