This is article that explores the Klondike Gold Rush from the point of view of North American native people like the Inuit. It discusses the effects that the Gold Rush had on the Indigenous people. Although it is not written from an Indigenous person, it is well researched and offers a point of view that is almost exclusively not talked about at all when discussing the Gold Rush.

This book talks about figurative language from around the world. Since students will be analyzing and discussing figurative language in the poem for this unit, this book would be a great tool to use before reading the poem as a way to introduce what figurative language is and explain how every language has certain idioms and figures of speech, not just English. This would provide students a way to understand what figurative language is in their native language rather than feeling like they are learning a brand new concept and in a new language.

This book would help support my English learners as we begin to discuss figurative language in hopes that looking through this book, they would come across an idiom in their native language that they've heard before and be able to connect the new vocabulary words associated with figurative languages to their prior knowledge with idioms in their native language.

This multi-generational and multi-cultural book boasts fun "rhythmic rhymes, repetition, recall, and alliteration." This would be great to use to introduce my students to rhythm in poetry so that when they read "Sam McGee" aloud, they are able to keep the rhythm and beat of a longer poem. This book would also help to teach alliteration and rhyme - two other elements of poetry and figurative language that we will be discussing during our mini unit.
