When he forgot where he lived and who he cares about. He slammed the door shut to everyone that cared for him which exactly happened to Algernon. This increase in depression has also effected his self-esteem. This lowered it to an all new low. He then gave up and He left everybody and decided to move to a new state

The part of the story that I would identify as the climax is after Algernon dies and Charlie comes to the conclusion at the height of his intelligence that there is no way to stop the same thing from happening to him. After Algernon's state begins to deteriorate, Charlie frantically searches for a solution only to come to the conclusion that he is destined for the same fate. These entries are the most exciting in the story, which is another reason why it is the climax.

I define the climax to be non other than the event of which Algernon died. Algernon's death was one of the most complicated parts in the story whereas that is what caused Charlie to think about himself and verify what would be the end of his life, Charlie would be having the same absolute problem if he were to have the same operation which would result in Charlie's death.
