Sometimes known as the Siksika, the Blackfoot tribe lived in what we call, The Great plains. They were hunter-gathers but their main source was buffalo. During the winter they'd split into groups and stayed in lodges. The lodges could hold 100-200 members. Tribe leaders were wealthy and successful. For religious ceremonies, men wore bright face paints and often wore war paint while fighting. All cloths were made of animal skin and usually tanned buffalo. Women wore ankle length dresses while men wore leggings. Food mostly consisted of buffalo meat, however, fish, other game, roots, berries, herbs, and fruit was also eaten. Most of the time meat was roasted but occasionally, boiled.

Before the white settlers, the Blackfeet thrived off of buffalo and the land, as well as trading buffalo hides with other Tribes. When white settlers came, they killed off most of the buffalo, and the numbers of the Blackfeet Indians decreased due to starvation and slaughter from the Americans, however, they still have reservations today.

The Blackfeet was one of the ten largest tribes in the nation. They consisted of around 9000 Native Americans. However, by 1780, there was as many as 15,000 Blackfeet members. The white settlers brought disease, and from the disease sprung an epidemic. The smallpox epidemic killed at least 6000 Blackfeet, not to mention all of the Blackfeet killed by the settlers.

Because of their popularity, the Blackfoot were typically the classic example of The Great Plains. They were nomadic hunter-gatherers and they lived in tipis. The bison was the main point of the economy, and focus of their entire culture. However, they also hunted large animals and grew vegetables. Their economy today is based on ranching, farming, wage labor, welfare, and leased land income; there is potential for oil and gas production. Their biggest problem is poverty, just like our society, the higher people are better off than the lower. In the 1960s, their economic structure was described as "neo-colonial".

Evidence shows that the Blackfeet migrated from the east around the year 1200 AD. They lived in forests in northeastern U.S. in search of more land. For a short amount of time, they settled in an area near the Great Lakes, but moved because of competition with other tribes. They held most of the territory out of any group in the Great Plains. They often lived around fertile lands near rivers and streams, and in villages where they could raise crops. Other times, they lived in portable teepees and hunted buffalo.

'The Blackfoot nation consisted of three tribes: the Blackfoot, the Blood, and the Piegan. The Blackfoot nation was led by chiefs, chosen from each clan. They valued harmony, so their government worked by consensus, meaning each chief had to agree before a decision was made. Boys within the nation were invited into certain societies after proving themselves through passages and rituals. These included vision quests, and leaving the clan into the wild for four days. The different societies included but are not limited to the warrior society, the religious society, and the women's society. Warrior society prepared for battle by cleansing and painting symbolically. Religious Society protected sacred items and conducted ceremonies. The Women's Society cared for and taught the children. As we mentioned before, there was a sense of class ranks among them, like every other Indian group. The lower people were often poor and in poverty, while the higher were richer and had easy lives.
