This also focused on bias in assuming ability levels of students. This could be by assuming students can't do something just because they have an IEP or a disability. This is important to note, because we shouldn't assume from the start or make decisions for students until we have actually gotten to work with them. Strategies seen here can be used across the board.

All of the tips in here are great ways to support students and create a safe place. This is geared towards high school aged students, but could be used in the middle grades as well.

It has a great list of easy things to do to try to check your bias at the door and stresses the importance of language choices we make with students. It can be used at all levels, but some tips are geared more so for the elementary level.

It also provided good ways to deal with unconscious bias at the end. This is useful for all ages.

The boy in the video has dreads and is told to cut them off because they are "unprofessional" and make him look like a "thug". He responds by saying that he is 14 and doesn't need to look professional. I think this is a great example and reminder that just because something is different or looks different than us, it doesn't mean that they are unprofessional. Once again this relates back to labeling individuals. This can be used for all grade levels.

When looking at the boxes people are standing in it's not specifically clear what they might have in common to be in the same box. In addition, when they have the different categories of people, there's no real one "look" to the people. I think this can be used in all grade levels.
