Can you be a strong reader in one discipline and an excellent reader in another discipline?<br>Students in science have a hard time comprehending difficult concepts if they don't know how to "read" science information.<br>Strong readers of science question the outcome, investigate probabilities, give themselves time to think, and lean on other students for comprehension.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Many of you have a family member, friend, or heard of, a person with cancer. <br><strong>Anchoring Phenomenon:</strong><br>Why did my Michelle get breast cancer? <br>What organelles are affected in her cancer cells? <br>What makes up an animal cell?<br><strong>Use of Model:</strong><br>Collaboration of hypothesis (think of environmental factors, our diet, lack of exercise)<br>Based on student's hypotheses, we can now look at and demonstrate the components of a cell and dive into the inner workings of cellular processes.<br>As students learn more about organelles, they can revise their original hypothesis to be more specific.<br><strong>Literacy Practice:</strong><br>Have students at the end of the week write in their logs about what questions they have, what they were interested in, and what ideas they have for learning more about cells.<br><strong>Integration of Technology:<br></strong>I can have my students create a blog taking on the role of a cell organelle and create a first person experience of what it's like to be an organelle in a cancer cell.<br>Include video (eg. prokaryotic vs. eukaryotic cells)<br><br></div>]]></description>
