The reason for my involvement within the society was the emergence of drug addiction in my city. I participated in a community awareness campaign and have participated in numerous training courses and worked on many volunteer projects.

...we should have more youth camps, as this will help youth to exert the greatest amount of positive energy in the right place and give creative ideas. Also, training courses should be held to help youth develop academically and intellectually, and also to create a connection between youth in the international movement.

My experience is, that young volunteers always hope to gain friendship and sense of achievement as well as skills from their RCRC journey. If we can make youth benefited and empowered, then our movement can attract and sustain more young volunteers.

...provide a platform for youth to participate in decision-making. It could be as national and provincial youth commissions which will give a stronger innovation and motivation mechanism.

As young volunteers we are here because we want to be part of something bigger together. We want to carry our load. Make mental health a cornerstone of our mission in order for all of us to be able to take equal part in our Movement.

... help the volunteers match expectations to what is possible. We see too many burnout because young people want to do more and more until it becomes too overwhelming. We need to get better at helping people to carry the load they are capable of in a sustaining way.

A significant barrier to youth engagement is the limited opportunity for youth to contribute with ideas and initiatives. This lack of participation creates a double challenge, it discourages young volunteers from getting involved and reinforces the perception that their ideas aren't valued.

...implement youth policies and facilitate more international youth exchange programs for collaboration on global issues.

We should create opportunities for youth to contribute and lead, and foster environments where our voices are heard and valued.

As young volunteers we are a different generation with different experiences, interests, and potentials. Our efforts will shape the world into a different and better future, and we are ready to lead the world into that different direction. We just need a supportive environment - not an oppressive one.

I see senior volunteers (30 and above) usually drop off the Red Cross and we lose expertise and experience. A senior advisory council consisting of the senior youth and management could be created at all levels to accommodate the senior youth instead of letting them go.

The reason I chose to volunteer in the Red Crescent is to provide assistance and support in order to work towards achieving good in society as a result of the unstable conditions in my country. I have participated in several training courses that work to qualify young volunteers and teach them how to face challenges collectively and develop their spirit of initiative and enhance their belonging to their communities so that they can withstand the challenges we face.

The Youth Engagement Strategy for the Movement as well as many international programs are very strong - but it is important we make sure that change is happening at a local level as well.

I see some organizational structures within the Movement where, in some instances, the leaders make decisions for the youth. For the senior leadership of the Movement I say: Instead of doing it for us, do it with us. Or empower us to do it for ourselves.

As a volunteer in the RCRC Movement, I was given opportunities to experience a lot of things that I never thought I would. The journey with the Movement is part of my growth that motivates me to do better and be better to give back to society.

...continue bringing more opportunities to all the youth out there who are passionate towards society. Youth are growing. Youth can bring positivity to the world.

I would say that the main barrier for youth engagement within our Movement sometimes is a difficulty balancing work/studies and volunteering. Especially when you face a choice between the work or educational institution and the possibility of volunteering.

... consider giving financial support for the most dedicated young volunteers who dedicate a lot of their time so that they don't have to choose between the work and volunteering.

I believe that the best advertisement for engaging youth as volunteers is the word of mouth and first hand experience. As in to have more activities for youth, led by youth to show and encourage youth involvement. And by extension, generating a lot of positive word of mouth.

I grew up in a small town where there was no local Red Cross branch. I became a volunteer after participating at a workshop for youth arranged by Red Cross volunteers visiting my town.

One of the challenges we face in Greenland is the huge geographical distances – it is difficult travelling between towns.

… make an effort to reach all youth even in remote areas of the country.

For an example, it is a good idea to visit all towns and give youth the opportunity to participate at relevant activities for youth.

For me, being a volunteer means being part of a community. I am already looking forward for the next workshop I am arranging for other youth as a volunteer.

I started my journey with the Iraqi Red Crescent Society in Salah Al-Din in 2006, when the water level of the Tigris River raised, leading to a flood that affected several areas and neighborhoods. We began with relief and rescue operations and providing aid. Later, I worked in the Family Links Department in cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross by distributing messages to and from the families of detainees held by the American forces.
