It helps improve all of the pupil’s languages and can be incredibly engaging. It allows the pupil who has English as an additional language to teach others whilst improving their own confidence, whilst widening the vocabularies of the other pupils.  
 
Activity - Get the child with English as an additional language to talk about their first language and teach the other pupils in the class some of the basic words, e.g. pencil, pen, house, brother, sister etc. Get the pupil to use personal examples, e.g. bring in photos of their family and different traditional objects they own.

A pocket book is a 'mini book' that will  support the pupil in their academic writing. It will provide multiple examples of 'Sentence starters', e.g for Science, ' I predict that...' or 'I learnt that...' The pocket book can also include 'Sentence frames' e.g. when concluding an experiment 'The difference between _____ and _____.'

All children to be given a dictionary to record phrases and words that they have learnt from EAL pupils in the classroom. A tool that will help them to communicate and engage in conversation with peers. Also affording the EAL pupils the chance to use their L1 to educate their peers.
