The situation continuously builds up into the climax and it evolves into a large scale shootout. After this the falling action is met. After a long shootout all of the gang members are killed at the cost of many police officers' lives. With the threat of Al Capone's gang gone the police officers begin to leave and the sounds of gunshots and sirens are gone. The whole situation begins to die down along with the noise and a sense of peace is given to all the residents and police officers. “But there was no sound at all, but the clock upon the wall” shows how after all this conflict the city is dead silent and that all the action building up to the climax is finally finished. Although the shootout was finished the narrator's family was not able to be put at ease until “Then the door burst open wide, And my daddy stepped inside”. The narrator's father who is a police officer finally returns home safely and the family is able to stop worrying which lets the story move on to denouement/resolution. The main character reveals other characters like his family members. He shares what he sees them doing like his mother crying and praying. He also shares the information he hears from outside like Al Capones and his gangs plan to fight the law and the police. The narrator shares the information they know about the situation as the story progresses. He lets the reader/listener know the start of the fight and the end of the fight as well as what he hears people saying on the streets. At the end of the story he describes the quietness and how the fight settled down and ended. The narrator is a very static character who tells the story without showing any emotional change and does not share many of his emotions and rather just narrates what he sees, not what he feels.

The song narrates the bravery of the police and how they fought with their lives on the line to take down Al Capone's gang. These police officers all put themselves in immense danger to remove any threats to the people and to keep the civilians safe. In the song we hear somebody say “bout a hundred cops are dead” showing the amount of people that were brave enough to put themselves out there and fight but unfortunately lost their lives in action. The police officers fought until every single threat was eliminated and every civilian was safe from Al Capone’s gang. Although the song is based on this event it is not historically accurate with many flaws. The song “The Night Chicago Died” was written by British songwriters Peter Chandler and Mitch Murray. The two songwriter put together the song “The Night Chicago Died” but there was a large flaw in their song writing.  Mitch Murray, said “We were obviously a little careless with our research, as we were when we wrote about Al Capone fighting the 'forces of the law' - I really don't think that ever happened; apparently, the cops were nearly all on Capone's payroll.”(Songfacts) The song “The Night Chicago Died” is about Al Capone going to war against the law with his gang in an attempt to make the city his own. In the real event this was actually a battle between Gang Leaders Al Capone and George Morgan although it has not been confirmed that it was Al Capone. In the event some of George Morgan's gang members were gunned down by Al Capone’s gang who dressed up as police officers. Also, in the song we hear an anonymous character say “bout a hundred cops are dead” when in reality the gang members dressed up as cops were the killers and only seven gang members were killed.
