Episodes lead viewers through a description of the book, pertinent resources, and four to five essential topics from an anti-bias, critical literacy perspective (Social Justice Books, 2022).
Implementation idea
Teach students about slavery in America using this selected book from Social Justice Books. It is great for older students but can be read aloud to young students. This is a true story and serves as a reminder and example of how African-Americans in the United States fought enslavement in a variety of ways, from the courts to undermining their captors to their daily survival and existence (Social Justice Books, 2022).
Watch video: Learn about the book's key points, themes, and keywords, as well as why it's recommended (Social Justice Books, 2022).
Engage: Students can create a word cloud to describe the attributes of Mumbet, here is an example (American Independence Museum, n.d.).
Share: Post students' word clouds to create a Mumbet WordCloud Padlet that you can share on social media.
