I chose this picture because it makes me think of mermaids. Whenever I think of the ocean, I think of this mythic creature, and the idea that mermaids could be either A) completely lovely or B) totally evil.

It also makes me think of John Donne's quote, "teach me to hear the mermaid's singing" . . . and also of the idea of Odysseus, who must be tied down to avoid jumping overboard when he hears the "siren's song."

I love the idea of the unknown, and this creature of the sea fits that description perfectly!

I honestly love this picture because it shows the bioluminescent beauty of the deep sea. When talking about the ocean, my mind always goes to moon jellyfish. Their simplistic beauty to me is beyond words, and the gentle way they drift through the current is almost freeing, in a way.

When I think of the sea I think of finding nemo, and one of the creatures I found to be interesting is the star fish. Nobody ever notice the star fishes. They are very unique. Did you know They have bony, calcified skin, which protects them from most predators, and many wear striking colors that camouflage them or scare off potential attackers. They are beautiful animals that come in all shapes sizes and colors.

I really like this picture because it portrays two very different but common things happening. You can see the calm and still ocean just before the storm is going to hit, and you can also see the powerful storm approaching. I think that this image really shows the beauty of the ocean and how it can switch very rapidly into something that we do not expect to come. Furthermore, meaning that without any question the ocean can become something that we do not view it to be typically. Normally we see the sea as a calm place for relaxation, but there are many more dangerous things that are going on, like in this case the storm passing along.

I chose this picture to represent the tranquility of the ocean. Whenever I think about the ocean, i automatically think of how beautiful and relaxing it can be. I love how I can stand on the shoreline and look at the, what seems like, endless ocean. My favorite thing to do while at the beach is watch the sunrise over the water. It makes me realize how something so simple can be so beautiful. For that short moment it feels like there is no negativity in the world and nothing could ever go wrong.

I don't know exactly what I feel about this picture. I love it because of the mysteriousness of what can be in the deep deep depths of the ocean, but scared to see the unknown. This fish out of the many that live deep below are able to glow witch i think is also pretty cool. We don't know much about this fish other then that it lives thousands of feet below the water and that it glows. It bothers me in a way, because I want to know what other beautiful creatures their are.

If you go far enough out like on a cruise no waves crash and the water just turns into a beautiful royal blue. But what makes me so interested is what kind of marine life is down there? Also, how deep it is. Its amazing how incredibly huge the ocean is .

A lot of times when I think of water, I think of different ways to cross it, to see what else is out there. A bridge is one of those ways. It has the ability to take you to places that you never even imagined. Just like a bridge, water can take you to new places that you didn't even know about.

I chose this song to represent how I view the ocean. Not only does the song mention the beautiful ocean itself, but refers to it as this huge unknown world that we are all just one tiny little piece of. This song itself is beautiful and peaceful which is how I think of the ocean, but it also gives off a desperate, emotional feeling which is also how the ocean can portray itself. The waters are beautiful, but at the same time, they could swallow you whole.

Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty."

I'm generally a guy who enjoys the company of people, however, some people i meet are just jerks. Kinda makes me think "Wow, humanity sure does suck today". But this quote kinda gives insight that just because there are some scummy people doesn't mean all of humanity is bad. Even I've had days where i'm that way, it passes though for everyone, unless you know someone who's constantly a wet blanket or something, then sorry friend.

Many people fish and dumb in oceans and seas not knowing that there are thousands of living animals and plants that call the ocean "home". They don't realize that just like humans on earth, fish need some place to survive on and make generations of other beautiful fish. The ocean is an unknown world with a lot yo discover, but as much as we want to go down there and take all of it's creatures, the ocean needs to live in peace. Instead of fishing and destroying the underwater habitats, we need to collaborate to bring cleanliness to the waters. Fish and plants depend on the ocean's water the way we depend on the earth's air.

In this scene Nemo and Dory have been captured in a net intended to catch tuna. This reminded me of the video we watched last week in class were many fish died in the effort to catch just a small number of shrimp. In reality Nemo and Dory should have been doomed but with their quick thinking they were able to escape death, rehearsing the phrase "Keep swimming". This problem of killing an unnecessary amount of fish just for a few is shown on such a large scale but was just brought to my attention last week. It's a bigger deal than we realize and there needs to be some changes.

Some of the many shapes and colors found in the ocean can be found nowhere else, and this video artistically exaggerates these features. I found it interesting because this could be how people perceived the ocean before we truly began exploring it. The ocean is a phenomenon that always has certain parts which have never before been seen by human eyes.

While this image shows how the ocean can be scary and dangerous with the dark shadows and the menacing octopus, it also shows the real beauty in the ocean. The octopus is quite the creature, having 8 appendages and being so large in size. There are still so many things that we don't know about the ocean, who knows what is out there? It's very interesting to me to think about how many new creatures we find after new explorations in the ocean. You can see the waves washing up and it sets an ambiguous tone; the ocean is beautiful, the ocean is dangerous, the ocean is a mystery, etc. It's a relatively dark photo, but there's also a small line of light coming from the clouds. In a way I think this represents the ocean. We've only explored a very small percentage of the ocean (the light) and the large portion we haven't explored is a complete mystery (the dark).

This song makes me think about the dangers of the ocean, whether it be working on the ocean, or being an animal trying to survive in it. And it makes me think about how even though many people see killing whales as wrong, the whalers kill them from the point of view of trying to save something else; the penguin. They believe that what they're doing is good. It puts some perspective on the matter. I also chose this song because it reminds me of "Home of the Whale," which we just had to annotate. I actually discovered this song before we started the unit and immediately thought of it, as I had been listening to it nonstop for the past few days.

This song reminds me of the ocean because it reminds me of the vastness and danger of the ocean. It is about a sailor who is wishing to go home but all he sees out of his window is blue ocean and sky. It is a dangerous thing because at any moment for the sailor something could happen to his ship and no one would know. It is also evokes the feeling of isolation compared the the miniscule size of one human on one ship in a body of water that makes up the majority of the whole planet.

I chose this picture because it shows how beautiful the sea is. It shows the bright vibrant colors of the fish deep down in the ocean. It represents the hundreds of fish that live deep down in the ocean. There's a world of fish in the ocean just like there's a world of humans here on earth. There's so much of the ocean we have yet to see with our naked eye.

The sea look beautiful yet mysterious in this picture. The sun is setting over it and it appears to be peaceful to me. Even though it looks peaceful you can't tell what is going on under the water.
