         <description><![CDATA[<div>I'm going to be a science teacher and project-based learning works amazing with science.<br><a href="https://deq.utah.gov/Divisions/dwq/health-advisory/ecoli/index.htm">https://deq.utah.gov/Divisions/dwq/health-advisory/ecoli/index.htm</a><br>This website is from the water testing division in Utah. It shows that a lot of the lakes and rivers in Utah are not tested for e-coil which can cause major health issues if fish from infected waters are eaten or swam in. As a class we are going to test local water sources for e-coil. There are very cheap testing kits online. After we have finished testing, we will have a forum where the community can come learn about water and water borne diseases so each student, on top of doing the testing, can choose to do another project dealing with water, pollution, disease, or another subject that applies and present their findings.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>On April 19, USA Today posted an article about the top ten cities with the most short-term air pollution and Utah had two cities on the list: Salt Lake at number 7 and Logan at number 8.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Student during the genetics unit will learn about a lot of bio-ethical issues that affect genetic research. Each group will be assigned a different bio-ethical issue dealing with genetics like cloning, genetically modified foods, and stem cells. Then one person from each group will form a group with one person from every other group and share what they learned.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>We could do a body system Jigsaw. Assign each group a different body system either&nbsp;urinary, cardio, nervous, etc and then have one person from each group get in a new group with one person from other groups and share about the body systems they learned about. As they learn about each system they will fill out a worksheet and at the end of the day they will have a quick quiz about every system to check for understanding.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Step 1:</strong> Organize students into a group of 4-6 people.</div><div><strong>Step 2:</strong> Divide the day’s reading or lesson into 4-6 parts, and assign one student in each group to be responsible for a different segment.</div><div><strong>Step 3:</strong> Give students time to learn and process their assigned segment independently.</div><div><strong>Step 4:</strong> Put students who completed the same segment together into an “Expert group” to talk about and process the details of their segment.</div><div><strong>Step 5:</strong> Have students return to their original “Jigsaw” groups and take turns sharing the segments they’ve become "experts" on.</div><div><strong>Step 6:</strong> Have students complete a task or a quiz that’s reliant on them having understood the material from the contributions of all their group members.<br><a href="http://www.teachhub.com/jigsaw-method-teaching-strategy">http://www.teachhub.com/jigsaw-method-teaching-strategy</a></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Students will learn about dirt and compost and then create their own compost pile. They can bring piles and other biodegradable stuff from home and we will take things from the cafeteria as well. Students will learn about worms and how they help with decomposition. We will then sell our compost in the spring to the community and use the money for better science equipment. Students will learn about the importance of nitrogen, phosphorus, and other elements for healthy plants.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Dyer's Woad is a highly invasive species of plant here in Utah. it can make livestock very sick and spreads very rapidly. As part of our service learning, students will research how Dyer's Woad came to Utah, ways its spread is controlled, and about other invasive species here in Utah. Then students will go and pull Dyer's Woad to help the community to slow the spread of this plant. This could work great in the adaption unit and we can talk about how Dyer's Woad has adapted to thrive here in Utah.</div>]]></description>

Student read a discuss the materials in their group.
