The Sümela Monastery built in 365-395 AD is in the style of Cappadocia churches in Anatolia. It was built for the purpose of the church and was converted into a monastery. However, there is no information about this transformation. According to the rumors, one of the disciples of Jesus, Aziz Luke dreamed that he saw this place in the place where this monastery was held, holding the arms of the baby Jesus. After that, he came to Trabzon and the church was built in the place seen in the dream. The monastery, which was used as a police station in the 14th century, was left as it was during the Ottoman period.
