Read was a political leader making him an important asset to the Constitution. He was in Delaware's Assembly no less than 12 years, was Vice – President, and at one time her acting chief magistrate. He was the main reason Delaware adopted the Constitution. George was the author of Delaware's first Constitution in 1776.
