Point One: Sexuality Strains

Newer generations are causing LGBTQIA to rise, which can be impacted in the work place. Fletcher and Beauregard describe in their article, "The psychology of diversity and its implications for workplace (in)equality: Looking back at the last decade and forward to the next.", that the minority (LGBTQIA), will feel undermined because the majority is allowed to publicly express their outlooks and "positive sterotypes" towards life or even work.

Point One: "Newcomers"

Migration is a thing that has existed for decades. We move from one location to another to learn about new cultures and new religions. Most people living in their national home, may feel superior to those who have moved. It creates a generalized imbalance and avoidance of certain people in our overall society and in the workplace.

By taking a powerful, confident role in the workplace, we can learn more about different races and cultures. Nobody is born to be racist or sexist, if we take the first step to try and engage with someone who is different from us, we can encourage others to do the same.

Plenty of workplaces are becoming more accepting of tattoos and piercings, as does society. Although certain workplaces have a harsher tattoo and piercing policy than other areas, it is still important to clearly understand that some cultures, especially Indian cultures, use tattoos to embrace who they are!

Tattoos and piercings are becoming more common with the ages, "41% of millennials have tattoos, followed by 32% of Gen Xers and 23% of Gen Zers". While 14% are considering getting piercings. These individual defining pieces of art are becoming more popularized, and yet "Some industries have strict tattoo policies. For example, most U.S.-based airlines require that no tattoos be visible when cabin crews and pilots are in uniform. Military policies vary, but the U.S. Army and Marine Corps have strict policies prohibiting visible body art, while the U.S. Navy is more lenient, allowing tattoos anywhere but the head and face. For medical professionals, body art regulations are in the hands of each facility."

Plenty of people world wide follow different religions, and plenty of those people have their religions passed down from family or relatives. This concept pulls away from the self-discovery. Langston Hughes was one of these people. He was taught and raised with the belief that "Jesus would come to him, that he would see Jesus." And yet he never did. It left him confused, and maybe a bit scared for his future.

Langston Hughes also describes a sense of hopelessness and loss on the day he was supposed to "see the light" He sat in a room with a bunch of children and a preacher. One by one, each child stood up and took Jesus into their lives. Langston was the last one left, yet he never saw that light. He decided to join the rest of the children, and lived in a lie. He sobbed because he wanted to believe his aunt and her tales of how Jesus changed her life; he never found what she spoke of.

Point Three: Personal Work

"Our testaments to physical work are so often focused on the values such work exhibits rather than on the thought it requires. It is a subtle but pervasive omission" As a society, we fail to see that all jobs take a lot of work and effort to be completed! We only see the job for the salary and the physical appearance of the person that comes behind it, blue collar jobs take work that most people wouldn't even give a second chance, yet those jobs hold importance to the way we run as a society. Our overall looks shouldn't hold an effect on that.

Point Three: Dragging & Delaying

"These odors hung in my mother's uniform and her hair... The work that my uncle and mother did affected their sense of who they were, and thought limiting in so many ways." When we go to work, and spend all of out time invested in said work, it becomes really hard to get out of that mindset! It's easy to become stuck in a pattern, where work is the only interesting thing a person does. The "odor" of a job will continue to linger if it is allowed.

Religion

Bringing Religion to the workplace can be rather difficult simply because everybody is different. Rather than damaging those who have a different or unique religion, we should embrace them, and make them involved in the work ahead.

Mental Health

Keeping a persons mental health in mind is a important aspect to any part of our lives! When our co-workers keep in mind the way our mental health might drag us down during work, we are enabled to build connections and do better work overall.

Physical Appearance (Tattoo's and Piercings)

By allowing each individual to embrace themselves with their physical appearance, both positive things and negative things, they are enabled to feel true to themselves. When someone doesn't fear hiding from themselves to feel protected from judgement, they fail to focus on the things that are actually important. By working with each other in a full, positive manner, we are able to build trust, and with trust comes good work ethic between peers.
