I think that it depends on the student. Online labs can be useful for a student if they have a pretty good understanding of the material. It might be more difficult for someone who is already not understanding the material. In person labs are super useful when it comes to hands on learning. It will be useful for everyone if the student can get in touch with the teacher and communicate their questions either in person or online.

I think when it comes to online labs it really depends on how the student does. The student can either try to take in the information and work really hard in the lab or just not try at all. So I think it all depends on how the student wants to use the material.

I think that online labs can be a very useful tool especially for schools that do not put a lot of money into science programs to give them labs. You can have students do dissecting labs online also so that there is no controversy over dissecting animals.

I have had multiple online science courses with labs. I have hated each one. The labs did not develop my understanding, and they simply made completing the work more difficult. I think we need to continue having hands on approaches, especially in science courses, where students need to see and partake in the process of science experiments.
