The motives of the attacker were unknown. Coastal Belts- Hot and Humid but has cooling sea breezes, annual rainfall over 40inches, and average temperature of 82-88F. The narrow plain on the coastal belt is suitable for crops such as sugar cane, maize, plantains, beans, and cow pastures. The kingdom was visited by Arab and Swahili slave traders which explains the high incidence of Islamic presence amongst the Wanga compared to other Luhya. The kingdom was founuded by Nabongo Osundwathe and later on his sons rivalled each other over the throne. This rivalry caused the Wanga kingdom to split into Lower Wanga, Upper Wanga, and Great Wanga. Great Wanga remained the better  part of the Wanga kingdom. Each part of the kingdom was ruled by one of  Nabongo Osundwathe's sons. The main island is actually called Uguja but is refered to as Zanzibar. This region presently serves as a historic trade center. In the 19th centurary it served as home to the Masai and Kikuyu people. The tribe does not have a large population ,but the reputation of the Masal warriors and raids against neighbors gained them power beyond their numbers. Electoral votes weren't propererly accounted for and violence quickly spread. Another past struggle of Kenya is local vs national politics. Local politics were made nfair so that national/government politcs could benefit. Kenya's ethnic groups can be divided into three broad linguistic groups: Bantu, Nilotic and Cushite. The five largest groups between the three are the Kikuyu, Luo, Luhya, Kamba and Kalenjin- which account for 70%. The Kikuyu are disproportionately represented in public life, government, business and the professions.  The Luo people are mainly traders and artisans. The Kamba are well represented in defense and law enforcement.
