The first fact I learned is that crumbly soil helps the roots of plants spread out and grow. The second fact I learned is that worms create tunnels in the soil, which lets air flow into them and water flow in, which plant roots drink up. The next fact is that worms don't have teeth: tiny grains of sand and small stones grind the soil. Another fact is that sometimes when worms dig into the soil, they bring dead leaves and plants with them, which helps the soil. One more fact is that a worm covers any leftover plants or leaves with its castings, which hides at the top of the worms burrow and acts like a door for the worm. One of the last facts I learned is that the eggs are fertilized inside the cocoon, and this happens when the weather cools. The final fact I learned is that the worms hatch in about three weeks, and although they look only like tiny pieces of cotton thread, they are fully developed worms.
