I attached an article that talks about an assignment that can allow students to use problem-based learning. In this assignment it talks about the 5 blue zones which are areas around the world where people report to be living happier, longer lives. In the first part of the assignment, students research what blue zones are all about. They then create a plan of what they can do to carry out a happier, healthier life for themselves and their community. After that, they set to make changes by either making a personal promise, creating a family plan, or creating a school initiative. This allows students to look at their own life and a real life situation, and develop an idea to solve the problem. They develop knowledge about the issue and come up with ways to find a solution.

In this specific lesson, it can either be project or problem-based learning. For this lesson on nutrition and healthy eating, I could start off by having my students watch a documentary about students who set out to get fresh, healthy food for their school as they were rebuilding after hurricane Katrina. After that I can take my students to our own cafeteria and have them answer some questions on a worksheet about what's offered at the school and whether or not their nutritional needs are being met. After that, I can have my students come up with ways that we can meet all our nutritional needs at school. This way we are showing them a real life problem and letting them solve the problem by figuring out various foods that the school could offer to meet all of the nutritional needs at school. The lesson idea is attached here in this article:
(link wouldn't let me attach, here's the URL)
https://thehealthteacher.com/pbl-healthy-eating/

I would like to use cooperative learning in my class by incorporating a jigsaw learning strategy. I could do this during our disease prevention unit. I can split the class up into 4-6 groups around the classroom and each group can learn about a specific disease with their group. They can study it, write some notes and master the knowledge on that disease. Once they have done that I will break the students up into another group where there is one person from each group. From there, the students can explain what their disease is that they learned and teach it to their group. Each group can us 2-3 minutes to explain it and the students can take notes while they are explaining it. This allows students to work together when learning about the disease, but also interact and cooperate when teaching each other.

An idea for a service learning project would be to teach your students about exercise and fitness and the importance of that. Once you have taught the lesson, you can take the class to a local elementary school and have them plan a brief lesson where they explain the importance of moving your body and exercise and how it can be fun. The students can organize a sports team with the younger students which can help to promote fitness, team-building skills, and sportsmanship. An example of a fun, easy game that the students can play is kickball. The idea for this lesson is included in this link with multiple other ideas as well:

An idea I would love to do with my students is to have them do a social media campaign on ways they can incorporate a well-balanced healthy practice in their life each day. They can decide to focus on anything they choose to including, physical health, mental health, emotional health, etc. They can choose to do this through any social media source they choose. This can help them to come up with creative ways on their own and use common media outlets to share this information. This can be very beneficial because social media is being used a lot to share information and ideas. It can also be a good way to help students to use social media in a positive way!
