Essentialism is like a job interview - one must have the needed skills to be hired.

Strength: Brings students together by teaching them all the same way and there is no bias way to teach using this method.

Criticism: Lessons can be boring for students if the teachers have to stick to the basics and just get the information out.

Immediate change is implemented and the child goes in one way and comes out the other.

Strength: Children will have an organized environment to learn in.

Criticism: They do not look at what could have caused the reoccurring issue, instead they just want to focus on the now and change it without an understanding of the behavior.

In my classroom, I want to use ideas from each philosophy. I think that as a teacher, I need to be the one giving information to my students and the students should be comfortable enough to ask me for help with the environment I set up for them. I also want my students to each get a solid understanding of a topic, even if it takes them a different way to get there. I want to encourage them to do what it takes to understand the material and ask me for help when they're stuck or confused. No student in my classroom will be feeling helpless because I want everyone to find me as a resource for help.

All students have the ability to achieve high standards. It is the teacher's job to be able to teach the material in a way that is interesting for students. If students are interested, they should have no problem achieving these standards. This relates to humanism because students have a connection with their teacher and use the way of learning that works best for them. It connects to why I want to be a teacher because I feel all students have the ability to achieve great goals. If a student is feeling helpless and dumb, I want to be there as a guide and answer all of their questions because I know every single student can be successful in learning.

Learning focus and goals: I want to have control on the learning environment and make lessons that are fun for students, but also get the point across and conquer the curriculum. I want to teach things that can be brought into their future as well.

Classroom organization: I will place students desks in groups of 4 where they will be able to communicate with a partner and also ask peers for help when they are confused. My walls will be covered with helpful posters that correlate with lessons that they can refer to when they are stuck. Also, I will have material accessible for them to use if it helps them: whiteboards, colored pencils, stress balls, etc. Lastly, I will make sure there are different seating options in case they feel like they could be more productive in a different spot: couch, carpet area, bean bags, and exercise balls.

Teaching style and lesson plans: I will teach at the whiteboard and check in with students often to make sure they understand the content. I will let students converse about answers to see if anybody has a different one. To keep organized, I will put up a class schedule and keep a calendar on my desk. I aspire to teach with enthusiasm and teach content that will be appealing to my students.

Student assessment and evaluation: I will evaluate students in a variety of ways. I will give paper tests and projects in hopes that they grasp the material. If material is not being learned, I will think of new ways to assess where the children will be able to maintain their information that I taught. If their scores are not how they would like, I will allow corrections if their homework from that section is done showing they put effort towards that extra credit.

Motivation and management/discipline: I want to give out rewards for good behavior, but no rewards regarding grades because I do not want to call anyone out. I will make sure that kids follow my rules and I will actually have them help me write them so they understand what I expect from them. I will think of sayings to get their attention like "one, two, three eyes on me" and have brain breaks so they do not get too overwhelmed in their work/lessons.

Classroom Climate: I will have colorful posters hanging up and dimmer lights in my carpet areas for reading time. Also, I will make sure to honor what everyone has to say and avoid biases when dealing with classroom issues.
