The pilgrims risked their lives to come to America because they were feeling like their lives there were uncertain and they could've been executed , they felt fear , paranoia , and rage . A lot of bad things were happening in their country during the time they decided to leave . Hades comet flew by and they took it as a sign of displeasure so people started to argue about what was causing the displeasure. There American Dream was to be whoever they want to be they didn't want their religions to be chosen for them especially because they were English Christians and they wanted to separate from the Church of England but they couldn't so they decided to start a new life.

The puritians valued the devotion to God and they didn't really have much fun. Everything they did was very dull for example they didn't celebrate holidays like Christmas and they didn't enjoy dancing or listening to music . Women at that time were mostly working at the church and men were training for the military or already in the military . The children were expected to help out as soon as they were old enough . When girls were in their teens they wouldn't be let out they would be mostly working until they found a husband to live with.

During this era people valued reason a lot more that's why it's also called (the age of reason) . This was a time where authority was starting to get questioned because there was no reason behind it. The age of reason was made popular because of philosophers and local thinkers. These reasons challenged authorities of institutions that were a big part of society. All these ideas were thought of because of the increase in literacy since there was mostly religious texts before that time
