• I liked how the group used a wide range of assessment tools to assess Ben's needs and his current level of abilities

Positives:

• The use of bloom’s taxonomy to derive the specific needs to be assessed 

• Breaking up of the story mountains in smaller chunks that will be covered throughout the 5 sessions

• Coherency of using the story mountain 

• Checking in with teacher - about Ben’s needs, looking into rubrics that are used; so that there is coherency in what the English teacher teaches and what the SENO teaches

- I liked how they incorporated various assessment tools to assess Ben's needs and strengths i.e. using Bloom taxanomy for assessment (evidence-based)

they choose apt portions such as remember, understand and apply and worked around it.

Secondly, they highlighted all the key points on their lessons. It was easier to focus and know what they trying to explain.

Thirdly, the group had a good sequence of planning, and they transit smoothly from key member to another.

I also enjoyed reading the explicit lesson plans created for each session. The assessment of and for learning allowed me to understand how they were going to check on the student’s progress throughout the 5 sessions.

2.Slides are clear and clean

3.Emphasizing constant cooperation with the class teacher

Every lesson prepared was clear and explicit. The teacher ensures that there is a clear objective for each lesson and provides a way to assess the objective at the end of the lesson.

• I liked how the group considered observing the teacher's strategies used in class. By doing so, the SENO will not teach something that is contradictory to the teacher.

• I liked how the group incorporated activities based on Sam's interests (e.g. Detective Pikachu) and preferred learning style (e.g. Scavenger Hunt as he is a visual and kinesthetic learner).

They constantly and consistently had dialogues sessions.

They kept emphasizing the child is a visual leaner and they did all sessions very interestingly. which cater to the needs and wants of the child. Especially the word wall, they kept on expanding the wall on each session.

They also explored strategies such as Mind maps. which can be used in her other subjects. whatever they did can be used in her other subjects as well. well done!

Positives:

• The conducting of classroom observations to see at which point that Sam goes “blank”  

• I like the clarity in the rationale of the instructional goal 

• The use of her interests - e.g., Pokemon to create the buy-in with the child. Lessons are structured around her love for Pokemon (e.g., in one of the sessions, there is a tie in of Pokemon with ‘rocky terrain’) 

• Knowing her learning styles (visual, kinesthetics) and planning the sessions around them. Activities are broken down into smaller parts and require movement. 

• Each session is building onto the word wall to increase in her scope of vocabulary 

• I love the certificate of participation!

• Usage of student’s interest (Pokemon) to engage student during learning - interesting theme (Detective Pikachu)

• Sessions are well-planned and aim to meet her needs as a visual and kinesthetics learner 

• Visual checklists and word walls are great strategies - helps with visual clarity and memory retention 

• Overall intervention sessions are very fun because it is interactive and visually stimulating (usage of storytelling cards, scavenger hunt, roleplay, comic strips, mind map)

• Positive reinforcement through reward - certificate of completion, Pokemon pack 

The detailed explanation and slides enhanced my understanding of a Story Mountain. Love it!

It is interesting that they further broke down what was done during the pre-assessment to identify where the priority for the child will be.

The use of the same strategy throughout the 5 sessions is also a good idea as child can anticipate each session knowingly and there is consistency throughout.

I personally loved the idea of detective "pikachu" as it makes the lesson engaging and motivate the student to learn. This idea can be used in future lessons too!

- I liked how they include very clear video demonstrations of their sessions i.e. using conjuction ''and'. This is so as it allowed me to have a better understanding of the flow of the session, and how the student might respond during the intervention session.

- I also liked how they include lesson schedules, so as to pre-empt the student on what to expect during the sessions. Overall, very comprehensive slides and cute and relevant theme too!

Love the freshness of the nature theme! An interesting idea!

There is use of authentic work samples and checklists. The different strategies used for each withdrawal session are clearly explained in details. Love the structure of the sessions in general. The examples given for student in the teachings are clear and concise. There is also a schedule shown indicate the parts of the lesson done.

Your efforts are really commendable! The use of video modelling is something that we all know, and yet not tried out. Very nice!

• I really liked the range of activities. It sounds really fun! As a child, I would definitely feel engaged.

• I really liked how within the "I do, We do, You do" stages, there are opportunities for both reading and spelling.

- I liked how the resources used are diverse, age appropriate, creative and targeted at the needs of the student! This way, I am certain that the student will be more motivated during the sessions.

• When using worksheets, student’s motivation was considered and hence worksheets were prepared with visuals to cater to learner’s needs

• Detailed planning of all intervention sessions

Positives:

• Breakdown of the different spelling rules into smaller portions and incorporating fun

• Love the variation in the activities - bottle cap activity, online game, worksheets, hangman game, word slider; different modes of teaching and practices used 

• Good scaffolding of the spelling process and applying the use of it into sentences 

The way the presentation took the point of view of presenting to the teacher which also let me see how the clarity of the approach would encourage the teachers to buy-in as well as give the teacher a clear idea on what is going on during the pull-out sessions with the child.

Love how thorough the assessment is to identify the child's developmental stage. Good that they included the short term and long term goals. They also ensured that the lesson taught is related to teacher's teaching in the classroom.

I like how there are different activities used since child is reluctant to attend the withdrawal sessions. The use of interesting games like word slider and game site is really nice!

With the help of visuals such as the visual cards and flashcards, the goal of the sessions which is to make the lessons interesting is met.

A lot of thought was placed when choosing the strategies to match the students learning needs. The student was a visual learner so strategies like the word wall was used to better aid in the students learning.

The use of token economy as a motivating factor was great as many a times we need the buy in of the student as well to our pull-out sessions.

They used long term and short-term goals. To achieve success.

They had a word list and worked on the list so that the child is focused, and basic understanding is achieved for spelling. Gradually they increased the list. They did not overwhelm the student.

They also adopted play-based approach for the teaching.

The gamification of the schedule is great in helping increasing the student's motivation during the session itself.

The video of the session also shows clearly how the session would be carried out.
