Characterization - All the characters are developed by Sylvia's descriptions of them and by their interactions and dialogue with other characters. The characters are Ms. Moore, Sylvia, Mercedes, Rosie Giraffe, Flyboy, Junebug, Farbutt, QT
Fictional Elements - Dialogue is informal/improper because the narrator is one of the uneducated individuals. The setting is in urban New York. The irony is that they ended up taking the money for just a quick fix of sweets.
Symbolism - The toy shop is a symbol for the better more fortunate life. The kids can do nothing but compare their lives to those who can afford the expensive toys when they are just worried about finding the next meal.

This story represents a struggle that millions of kids face every day. It is hard to look at other kids enjoying their expensive toys and clothes when you cannot relate to them. It makes them feel insecure and like they are less than those more fortunate kids. This story gives the poor point-of-view to a poor vs. rich situation.
