Fictional Elements - Dialogue is informal/improper because the narrator is one of the uneducated individuals. The setting is in urban New York. The irony is that they ended up taking the money for just a quick fix of sweets.
Symbolism - The toy shop is a symbol for the better more fortunate life. The kids can do nothing but compare their lives to those who can afford the expensive toys when they are just worried about finding the next meal.
