this picture illustrates the global burden of disease that Africa particularly, sub Saharan faces. Compared to other continents and countries currently Africa accounts for alot of the global burden of disease experienced, with about 86% of the population experiencing communicable diseases, noncommunicable diseases, injuries, etc and the total disability-adjusted life-years increased from about 33% to 66%. Here the stethoscope represents the huge demand to address and treat the many diseases areas like Africa that need to be prioritized in order to prevent the number of global of disease from growing.

Diabetes, like cardiovascular diseases is also one of the major noncommunicable diseases experienced worldwide affecting over 422 million people. Making it a risk factor because if an individual has diabetes it can lead to cardiovascular diseases, making it twice as likely to have heart disease or a stroke than someone who doesn't have diabetes—and at a younger age. The longer you have diabetes, the more likely you are to have heart disease.

This image here depicts the amount of those living with HIV and who are receiving treatment, showing that over 90% of people who are on HIV medication/ treatment are able to live healthy normal lives. So improving access to proper medication to those living with HIV can lower their viral load contributing to prevent further transmission of HIV. Especially groups that are heavily affected by it like gay men, and those who engage in 🤬/ vaginal sex.

This article talks about a study that took place in Africa which found that despite the use of antiviral therapy treatment (ART) used in Africa, the CD4 count of patients on the regimen decreased from 46.8% to 35.6%. Showing that despite efforts to improve the lives of those affected by HIIV and suppress viral load there needs to be more of prioritization of early HIV diagnosis, rapid linkage to ART and approaches to attract men into early ART initiation.
