Emma was born and bred in Moerewa and had Kapa Haka in her genes. Named after her grandmother who loved every bit of Kapa Haka and who forced her entire family to form a group called Matawhaorua. The group consists of all those who hail from Waiomio, and are interested in winning the challenge of Peeni Wynyard which is a tradition in Ngati Hine that has been going on for 100 years. The competition consists of Kapahaka, Netball, and Rugby. To win the challenge you have to win 2 out of the 3. Then you challenge the next rohe who put in their tono to challenge the winner of the taonga. Emma is the current tutor of this roopu and also performs. In the past she has performed in;

• Hātea

Emma tutored Bay of Islands College for many years.
