Today we did a practical workshop, this consisted of Jack telling us about equipment and demonstrating how it's setup and how it's used. The equipment consisted of a steady cam, jib, boom Mic, dolly track, lighting and a hand held rig. We were then given locations and had to choose locations to make a tutorial of how to assemble and use the equipment. Each piece of equipment would get a one minute long tutorial which would be combined and make a 6 minute long video. My group was of 4 people, we all took turns switching rolls which were being in the video, directing and filming the video on an iPad.

I started doing the first part of the research, this consists of finding styles and photographers that i like and can research there process and techniques. i have decided that fashion of street photography will be the best styles to do my work in, however i will finalise this when i have done my primary research and found out what people think would be the best of the two.

For todays lesson we did a workshop with the tutor, we were first shown how to make a new project in premier pro and also shown some techniques on how to edit a video. We were then given groups and a title and epic of equipment and told makeup a story based on the title we were given. We then had to film the story to make a short video. Our story was about a boy that had no friends so made an imaginary friend, this is because our title was "Why am I so alone?". The editing I did was very basic with basic transitions, thesis because I am not confident with editing videos. A problem that occurred was that our camera stoped working properly so most of the footage is blurry and not good. I added a song in the background of the video

Today we have done a practical lesson, this was only for the people doing photography for there FMP. We were taught about the settings of a DSLR camera and how digital cameras work. we were also explained about the shutter sped, aperture and iso settings of a camera and how these settings affect the out come of the images, the lighting and the depth of field. We were then sent out on to the college campus to try and take pictures using the techniques we learnt. we had an hour to try and figure out the settings of the camera in order to take the photographs. We then continued on having a lesson on how to use Photoshop in order to edit the photographs we have taken., We were told to choose the best two images and to edit them using some of the techniques we were taught.
One of the two of the images i have edited out of the images i took was an image of a set of stairs looking up at the next set of steps. This image was taken with slightly wrong settings and turned out darker than i had intended, i disced to edit it so it was not so dark, i did this by using the brightness and contrast tool in image, adjustments. Finally i use the unmask sharpen tool in filter, sharpen, this was to make the image sharper and lede blurry.
The best image it took in my opinion was a photograph of one of my peers who ar the time the photograph was being taken was looking at her own camera and trying to figure out the settings. After disciding that this was one of the images i wanted to edit i opened it up in photoshop. I used the tool brightness and contrast that was in the image, adjustment section to make the image brighter as i had the settings slightly wrong on my camera, by increasing the brightness it showed more details in the darker areas of the image. i then slightly adjusted the hue and saturation as i wanted the colours to be brighter, finally i used the Unmask sharpen tool in the filter section as this made the details of the image sharper, this is also because i did not have a tripod and the shutter speed was slightly too slow, so by sharpening the image it made it look less blurry.

The rest of the images that i have edited and the contact sheets are all on my showbie in the research folder.

Today was spend posting and editing some of the images from my first experimental shoot, this shoot was originally planned to be images of clothes that i will use many final shoot on a hanger hanging off a wall, this was to test the natural lighting and to view the clothes in full, however while photographing the clothes that fit the criterial of being popular in 2016, i tried taking pictures of the clothes close up, this was because i looked at the clothes in detail and thought that they would make better pictures than the original idea, i think that the images that i took of the clothes close up are much more visually appealing as they still fit the bries and they are showcasing fashion trends of 2016. The lighting of this shoot was all natural lighting, i set my camera to a fast shutter speed and wide aperture, this was so the images would not be too dark or too bright, i wend moved the camera floes to the area i wanted to photograph and zoomed in or out, depending on if object was too floes, or too far.
I decided not to edit any of the images too heavily as i thought it was unnecessary and would make the images look unappealing, the image below is the image that i thought turned out best in the shoot this is because it is clear and detailed and i like the colours, the image is of a belt look on a pair of high waisted jeans. I started by opening the image in photo shop, i then cropped the image, as i wanted the focal point to be the point where the bely loop is sown onto the jeans. I then altered the brightness and contrast of the image as it was somewhat too dark and i wanted to make the image slightly lighter. I then used the Smart sharpen tool to sharpen the image so it is more clear and visually appealing.

The rest of the images that i have edited and the contact sheets are all on my showbie in the pre-production folder.

Today i have competed the second of my experimental shoots, this shoot was a conducted in the town centred of my town, this is because i wanted to continue with experimenting with natural light in the shoot. The photos were taken at about mid day so the sun was directly in the middle of the sky so there is not many shadows on the ground. I was not too happy with the outcome of this shoot as in did not like any of the images i took.
The best image in my opinion is the image at the bottom of this post, this is because it is the clearest image and best showcases what i wanted to present in the images, it has ripped jeans, which came into fashion in 2016 and show case the idea of the project which was trends of 2016.
I edited the image at the bottom of this post, by firstly opening it in photo to shop, i then cropped the image so some of the unnecessary background was not in the image anymore and so the focal point is the woman in the image. I then changed the brightness and contrast so the image was brighter and clearer to see as it was taken from a distance and had some dark shadows in the background. Finally i used the Unmask sharpen tool to sharpen the image as it was taken from a distance, without a tripod and was quite blurry.

Today I came into college early, the was so I could use the studio to do he final two test shoots and the final shoot. The first sheet I did was a test of which lights would look best in the final shoot, the first lights I tested were two soft boxes, the soft boxes were set so when my cameras flash went off so did the flashes of the soft box. the background I used was a plain white background, this was because I decided when doing my secondary research that the best colour background was white, so I use a white background for all of the studio shoots.

The subject of the shoot was two of my peers, they both volunteered to be in all of the shoots I did today. I did not give them ant instruction on what to da as this shoot was testing the lighting and was not focused on anything else, as a result of this some of the images I took the models look like they are making funny faces and being silly.

The best image from the shoot in my opinion is the one at the bottom of this post, this is because I like the lighting, the background is a bright white with no shadows, the model in the left of the image has one hand on her hip and the other on her face, she is wearing black jeans and a white top, the model on the right is laughing in the image and has a Harry Potter top on, as well as glasses.
I edited this image by firstly opening it in photoshop, I then realised that I had some dirt on the lease or sensor of my camera while editing so I have had to use the clone stamp tool to edit out the grey circles, I then change the brightness and contrast of the image so the background and subjects were brighter. Finally I use the Unmask sharpen tool to make the image sharper, I had to do this as the image is somewhat grainy and by sharpening it it makes it look more sharp and clear.

I edited one other image from this shoot that I liked, I used exactly the same process, however I had to crop the image as I got some of the study in the image unintentionally

This shoot was the second shoot have done today, this shoot was also done in the studio, his shoot, like the first shoot done today, was done in he studio with a white background, as I said previously this is because when conducting my secondary research all of the people in the focus group agreed that a white background would be best for the shoot, this I why I used a white background in all of the studio shoots.

This shoot was to test another kind of lighting, the lighting for this shoot was one LED light directly facing the centre of the studio and at the models, originally I had planned for this shoot to have 2LED lights facing in from the sides, however only one LED light was available so I compromised and placed the one light in the middle. The subject of this shoot was the same as the previous shoot, it has two of my peers as the subjects, like the last shoot I did not give them any instruction as like previously this shoot was about testing the lighting and not he subject of the photographs, this resulted in the images being of my peers in strange positions with strange expressions.

I edited two images from the shoot, however my favrioute one is the one at the bottom of this shoot, it is of moth of my peers and looks like they are having a conversation, the LED lighting light I was testing for this shoot created shadows behind the models onto the white background, this gave the images a somewhat sinister look that I do not want for my final shoot, so I quickly concluded that this lighting was not the lighting I want to use for my final shoot.

The image that I liked most from the shoot was the one at the bottom, of this post, this is because I like the positioning and expressions of the models, as well as the lighting and shadows in the background. I started editing this image by opening it in photoshop, I then used the brightness and contract tool to make the image slightly brighter as it was quite dark, I then used the smart sharpen tool to try and make the image slightly more sharp and clear, finally I used the clone stamp tool to get rid of the specks that appeared on the image due to being on the sensor or lease of the camera. The only issue with this image that I have is that it is quite blurry, this is because there was not much light in the room, so ignorer to make the images no too dark I had to use a slower shutter speed, as I did not use a tripod for this shoot the images turned out slightly blurry. If I were to re do this shoot I would use a tripod to ensure that there is not shaking of the camera causing the photographs to be blurry.

The final shoot I have done today took place in the studio, like the previous two photo shoots, however this shoot was not focused on the lighting of the shoot, this shoot was focused on the subject go the shoot. The subject of this shoot was items of clothing that were popular in 2016.

This shoot also had a white background, the lighting used for this shoot was two soft boxes that were set so when the flash of the camera went off so did the soft boxes, like the first shoot. The shoot consisted of my two peers wearing clothes that were popular in 2016. The items that wren worn were:
-Heeled boots
-Choker
-Bomber jacket
-Embroiled jumper
-off the shoulder top
-High waist jeans
-Ripped jeans
-Apron top

I chose the images that wee the best from the shoot with each of the items of clothing in them and edited them, I edited them all using the same tools, this was so they are all consistent and in uniform. I started editing them by opening them in photoshop, I then cropped them when necessary, for example if the studio was in the background, I then would change the brightness and contrast depending on if the image was too bright or too dark. I would then use the clone stamp tool to edit out the circles of dirt ad distilled that was on my sensor and lease of my camera. Finally I would use the unmask sharpen tool tomato the images slightly clearer.

Overall I am disappointed with this shoot as the images do not look like I wanted them to and ere unfocused
