         <description><![CDATA[<div>Answer parts a, b, and c.<br><strong>a) Briefly explain ONE significant cause of Westward migration during the period from 1845 to 1898.<br></strong>One significant cause of Westward migration was the availability of free and cheap land. The Homestead Act, passed in 1862, offered 160 acres of free land. Settlers did have to pay a small fee and improve the land, which usually mean't building a home on the property. This is why the west was so appealing to many people living in the east. It was an opportunity for an improve in finances and possession. <strong><br><br><br>b) Briefly explain ONE significant economic effect of Westward migration during the period from 1845 to 1898<br></strong>One significant economic effect of Westward migration took its toll on the Western farmers. Because the Western farmers operated in a one-crop economy, their wage depended on the price of a single product. Deflation began causing the prices of crops to decrease in the late 1800's, which would force farmers to either foreclose or become tenant farmers.<strong><br><br><br>c) Briefly explain ONE significant social effect of westward migration during the period from 1845 to 1898.<br><br></strong>One significant social effect of westward migration was the increasing anger from the farmers that settles their. Farmers felt they were overworked and taken advantage of, which led them to create the National Grange of the Patrons of Husbandry. This group wanted to make the lives of farmers better through the use of educational, social, and community activities. This group is arguably the basis for the Greenback Labor Party, which sought to improve the working conditions of laborers.<strong><br></strong><br></div>]]></description>
