Until she met her classmate Etienne who was madly in love with her. Etienne showed her how to combine flavors, how to taste and how to smell. But he could never become her taste buds and her nose. The loving couple moved to Chicago when Camelia was offered an apprenticeship at the  renowned Alinea restaurant. There she learned how to transform food into art and cooking into theatre. It was at Alinea where she came up with the answer to Michelin Chef Grant Achatz's famous "Truffle Explosion": Chef Camelia's "Decadence". With "Decadence", she was given a hero's welcome into New York's fine dining scene with a Sous Chef position at the 2 Michelin star Hawthorn.

That same week she got her invitation to New York, Etienne took his own life.
