In 1917, the UK was in control of Palestine. That year they were appointed by the international community to make a national home for Jewish people in Palestine. Tensions started growing between the two groups and this started because of the Balfour Declaration, a pledge from Arthur Balfour to Britain's Jewish Society. This matters because without the British attempting to create a safe place for Jewish people the conflict wouldn't have started in the first place.

In the 1920s through the 1940s more and more Jewish people arrived. Most of the new arrivals were fleeing from European persecution, especially the Nazi Holocaust and WWII. During this time violence between the Jews and Arabs increased as well as violence towards British Rule. This matters because this was when tensions and violence really started to increase and the conflict got worse.

After the UN voted to separate Jewish and Arab states, which was accepted by Jewish leaders and declined by Arab leaders in 1947, Britain withdrew in 1948. After withdrawing, Jewish leaders created Israel as a safe place. A day later Israel was attacked by 5 Arab countries. This matters because Israel becoming a state started the main conflict and without Israel as a state there most likely wouldn't be a war right now.

A day after Israel became a state, a war started between Jewish and Arab militias. The Catastrophe or Al Nakba, was when hundreds of thousands of Palestinians either fled or were forced out of their homes. There was no peace agreement ever created so there were a lot more wars throughout the decade. This influences where we are today because without a peace agreement they can still declare wars and start wars.

During a war in 1967, Israel occupied East Jerusalem, West Bank, and most of Syrian Golan Heights, Gaza, and Egyptian Sinai peninsula. Now Palestinian refugees are living in West Bank, Gaza, neighboring Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon. Israel has said that refugees and their descendants are not allowed to return because it will overwhelm the country and threaten it's existence as a Jewish state. This influences where we are today because the Palestinian refugees and descendants of refugees still aren't allowed to return to their home and this issue is most likely one of the reasons that Israel and Hamas are still at war with each other.

In 2011 an Israeli Soldier was released as part of a prisoner deal in exchange of 1,027 Palestinian prisoners. The soldier was held since 2006 without access to Red cross or any other humanitarian resources. People in Israel protested and petitioned against the deal because of the pain that the prisoners had caused and the prospect of their release. On October 17th their Petition was rejected and the deal continued to happen. This matters because the prisoners that were released were dangerous and maybe if they weren't released then the current conflict could've been prevented.

in 2021, A major amount of violence was contributed to Israel and Hamas. This was happening due to Israel threatening to everyone who lived in Gaza that they would be evicted. And this did cause a lot of violence and protesting. But Israel did not like this, so they decided to launch a missle in Gaza hoping that this major outbreak of violence and protesting would come to an end. This did end some protesting and violence but not all of it. But it soon died off. After 11 days of the missle being hit on Gaza people stoped talking about it and hoped for the best. But after that violence between Isreal and Hamas did not stop and kept going.

In 2023, Israel and Hamas tried to come to an agreement to be at peace. But on October 7th, 2023. Israel sent missle on Hamas sending them into anger, since they broke an agreement that they made saying that they were not allowed to bomb the citizen's. But they did anyways. Protesting for Israel and Hamas has started to happen all around the world ever since they have found out about the bombings in Gaza. The major bombings that are being sent to Gaza has been going on non stop since October 7th of 2023. People are still trying to find ways to help the people in Israel and Gaza since they are both being bombed.

But Israel has decided that they are going to cut Gazas food, water, electricity, ect sources. And this is a huge problem since there are so many bombings happening and that they now don't have any life support to help them. Gaza has also been protesting about how if Gaza had their own transportation places and not isolated and controlled by Israel than everything would be fine.

In 2006, Gaza was supposed to be governed by the legislative branch which would give them their own set of civial rights. But in 2006 the PA had been defeated by the secular Fata party. Then Hamas won most of the council seats. More than they did in the 1900's. Since Hamas had a armed confrontation with Israel, the government promised Hamas $86 million dollars for their military. Later in that year Hamas kidnapped a Israel soldier and took him to Gaza. Israel launched missiles at Gaza in response for what they did but didn't hear from them until 2011!
