She was proud to wear the symbol of both her home and department. Despite growing from little, and experiencing some of the worst, Mona was able to overcome them. With great ambition, Mona would succeed from little and create more for her future. But it was her drive to create an easier life for herself that helped to start the road for those after her. From dealing with the abuse from Frank, getting pregnant at a young age, and doing the opposite of what was expected of her, Mona was definitely no stranger to a difficult time. She would come to inspire many more than just her beloved, helping those to find their way into her profession. It was Mona’s ability to do the difficult that made it easier for those after her to do it as well. A quote from the book that goes with this theme is " You should tell people your story it will help people who listen, and you should listen to it yourself." pg.324
