Design is problem-solving & transforming a written, contextual identity/ concept into a visual identity/ concept that is universal, beyond language. Whilst taking an emphasis of consideration of not only aesthetics but function. However, design is ultimately subjective to each individual and their lens. As a result, effective communication is vital to the process & outcome of a design.

I relate Miki in this sense as I also take a significant amount of inspiration for my work from music (particularly house/techno music).

I'm also drawn to her work for its detailed linework, pastel colour palettes with surreal and dream-like imagery - Miki transports viewers to a parallel world, where the digital and physical dimensions are blurred. Whilst the imagery is edgy & slightly haunting, reminiscent of the punk era of the '80s, the colours & gradients bring an ethereal quality to his work. However, the harsh brush strokes & purposeful chaos creates a brutalistic design impact.

Blacks/whites paired with soft pastels is evident in my designs also; as I love to play with the contrast between soft and edgy.

The icon also relates to my keyword, 'Playful' - to release your inner kid & curiosity - and not take things too seriously. Rather, to enjoy the process and roll with the 'errors;.

REFLECTION

- Abstract & gradients
- Grain
- Glitch Aesthetic
- Inverted
- Sci-fi (90's)

Firstly, I created a stand for my camera and took some self-timed photos with a white cloth behind me.
I then took the image into photoshop, etched the background out of the frame. Used gradient mapping to get the desired soft yet grunge colour contrast (inverted). I then used noise, motion blur and various layers of filters to refine. I wanted my self map to be extremely abstract and distorted (glitchy) - to embody my emphasis on digital surrealism.

The circuit board imagery further represents and echos my love for digital/ technology and the processes behind it. It also reminds me of train tracks or mini futuristic cities - reminiscent of the sci-fi aesthetic (Matrix 90's, Neo-Tokyo Aikra 1980's).

The floating abstract cube represents my passion for surrealism and thinking outside of the box - with the circuits flowing out of my brain. The cube itself is created from various cut-out shapes of my face from the same image to create this 3D like illusion.

HVMAN ERROR
Is a reference to my favourite retro sci-Fi film, '2001: A Space Odyssey; that I'm always inspired by in my style, designs and ethos as an individual. This name is also a reference to my purpose statement - To Err is human. Our best designs are created from our mistakes.

The Typeface used is - 2019 Floriane Rousselot
Edited - Using Adobe Illustrator 2020. I manipulated forms & added elements such as the stars in the first capitals of the name using vectors (converting the font to a vector shape).

The Letter mark logo includes Sharp line work (edges) paired with curved forms. The Word Mark creates a 'H' but when divided down the centre, creates a mirrored reflection of two 'E's (Hvman Error). Furthermore, the star echos brutalist concepts/ styles in relation to classic retro-futuristic imagery (stars) linking back to my keywords & purpose statement.

I chose this typeface as I felt it echoed characteristics of my design style within the font (Sharp points, fluid linework/ curved forms paired with geometric edges).

I adapted the typeface & letters in Adobe Illustrator to further encompass my keywords, style and brand ethos (brutalism, Retro-future, Playful) to create a more cohesive and impactful logo.
