I believe that some students misbehave because they don’t understand what has been asked of them. There also could be some other undiagnosed issues and this make it very hard for both the teacher and student to work together in the classroom. A teacher needs to work closely with student and develop a behaviour plan for the classroom that everyone agrees on at the start of the year.

Why do students misbehave? I believe students misbehave for a variety of reasons, deriving from both environmental and biological factors. I define misbehaviour as an intended action that hurts other feelings, endangers the safety of misbehaving student or/and others and disrupts teaching and learning. I acknowledge that some students exhibit misbehaviours because of circumstances outside the teacher’s control, for instances when a has student additional needs, or a student living in poverty may show behaviours because of their personal challenges. Additionally, misbehaviour can derive from the quality of teaching and strength of the classroom community the students are learning in.

I think there are many factors as to why children misbehave, this being during school hours or even at home with their parents. Children's behavior can differ in class and can misbehave due to possible boredom, not understanding what they need to do, so, essentially not being engaged in the lesson. Another factor of misbehaviour can be undiagnosed learning difficulties which can make children restless, struggle with concentration and display poor behaviour. Children at home with their parents can also misbehave, and this can be a result of not being able to properly communicate what they want, attention (cry out for help), rebel against authority (against mum & dad), or even mimicing inappropriate behaviour modelled by their parents.

It is my belief that children's behaviour is motivated by a number of factors. For some, it may be a learned behaviour that they have found gains the attention that they may not receive but desire. For others, it could be the only way they are able to express themselves or their emotions, possibly due to learning disorders, etc. For other children, it may be their way of avoiding work that is too difficult for them, perhaps indicating they may have a learning difficulty or disorder. Unengaging or irrelevant teaching practices can also lead to boredom which can cause some children to misbehave. There are of course many more reasons that can lead children to misbehave and the only way to truly understand the cause is to know the children in your care.

If a learning task is too hard or too easy they may act out due to lack of engagement. Misbehaviour is also a result of some learning disabilities such as autism, ADHD and ODD, this may be due to a lack of understanding of the proper way to interact in social situations as well as intellectual deficits that may be present. Trauma affected students in my own experience often display negative behaviours out of fear, anxiety and frustration, these behaviours
