Available to download on a desktop, laptop, etc., Microsoft Word provides benefits to high school students in several ways. Students have the ability to learn how to properly format papers, work on their grammar, discover new forms of publishing their works, and also how to create tables/graphs and also insert graphics such as clip art when applicable. Using Microsoft Word within the classroom will help students engage in their understanding of proper writing/creating their own projects that they make take with them into their future endeavors and better prepare them for any tasks ahead. This tool also provides students several tools within the app to assist them if needed such as changing the language or even having detailed instruction on how to operate the tool properly.

PowerPoint

Similar to Microsoft Word, PowerPoint is also accessible via download on a computer device and provides very similar details for students who may need additional assistance while using this tool. However, PowerPoint provides students the opportunity to learn more about organization and become familiar with inserting hyperlinks and multimedia. This tool will give students the capability of placing events/scenarios into a timeline based structure that will better enhance their delivery of information while also being able to provide websites/links more easily than most other forms. A potential downside to PowerPoint may be that students may become overwhelmed and place too much information on a slide or potentially use incorrect links/websites.

This tool acts as a "tutorial" type site in which students have the ability to look over videos assigned to them by the educator and have chances to answer questions while also practicing and reviewing the material. This type of tool allows students to work at their own pace without the fear of falling behind as they have the opportunity to go over the material several times. Most tutorials provide videos. graphics, and more; however, some students may find it not as interactive and engaging and potentially browse onto other sites or simply disregard the assignment entirely. However, they do have opportunities to engage in the tutorials by asking/answering questions as well as creating their own tutorial if required by the educator.

Quizlet

Quizlet is an online tool appropriate for all grade levels in which students have the ability to create their own flashcards, review/study for assessments, as well as create their own notes. Educators may also provide the students with a certain set of flashcards that they may study but it will also benefit the students more to create their own. A possible downside to this tool is that students will not take the time to truly understand the information and rather just search the internet for the terms and definitions being asked of them rather than going back through their notes/books to uncover the answers. However, it does provide the students with the ability to create web-based material that supports their active learning and encourages consistent engagement.

ClassDojo is an online tool that encourages student participation/engagement and can be used both inside the classroom as well as at home. Teachers can record and track student behavior, facilitate classroom activities, curate student portfolios, and engage in school-to-home communication. Student sign-in is simple with a class code, QR code, or username. This tool provides students with several resources/tools they can utilize throughout the year, however, they may become less engaged as time goes in so it will be imperative for educators to ensure the material holds their attention and can keep them interacting on a daily basis.

For this activity, students will create their own set of practice test questions that they will then share with their fellow classmates and engage with them on how effective their completed assignment is. Students may use either Quizlet or Khan Academy to create their own sample test questions/flashcards and they will stay engaged with the chapter material throughout as this will be their tool/resource in creating their assignment. After creating an account (if they do not have one), students will create a minimum of 20 questions/flashcards that they will bring back to class at the end of the week and will pair up in groups of either 2 or 3 and share their assignments with one another and provide potential feedback and report to the teacher what they learned from their peers.

For this assignment, students will interact with the platform of their choosing, either Microsoft Word or Powerpoint. After choosing their platform, students will then create one of the following: Table, Graph, Template, or Slideshow in which they go into detail about the unit they are on and what they have learned so far. When using one of these tools, be sure the content is in a timeline fashion and include clip art, graphics, videos, etc., when applicable in order to enhance the assignment and make it more engaging for others to view. The assignment should cover every major topic in the unit and provide as much detail as the student finds necessary to remember for the upcoming exam.
