Assessment of Vocab:
Size
  • refer to high-frq word lists (e.g. Service Lists)
  • give students list of 10 words at given level, then ask them to use at least five in a piece of writing
Acquisition Strategies
  • can use written task based on a reading passage containing NO MORE THAN 5 unknown words/100 running words
  • individual reading conferences with teacher, including prompting
  • give frequent opportunities to reflect on strategies that work & set goals
