the one child policy.
the one child policy imposed in 1979 as a measure to slow down population growth in the country. at the time they have a fertility rate of 2.5 per 1000 yet they population size was considerably great at 900 million almost a billion at the time. And it rapidly reached this population as the situation post war more people started having more babies. By the late 1950's china had a fertility rate of 5.4 per population, and it was encourage by the then chairman of china, Mao Zedong to have big families. in the 1960's china was hit by a famine due to a deficit in resources. in other words there wasn't enough resources to sustain the population. by 1969, china has a population of 500 million people and started to encourage the population to have greater time lag between children, meaning there should be 2 or more years in between each children. this approach worked well and by 1975 the fertility rate became of 2.9. this prevented the addition of 400 million to the population size; nevertheless, the population size was around 900 million people which was still considerably high. the one child- policy came into effect in 1979 and essentially establish that for each family there should only be one child. having one child also brought benefits- the state would provide for the education of the child in their early years, families would have a lower total amount in taxes, it also reduced the price in daily commodities such as food cost and living expenses. to encourage and support the policy law prevented people marrying before a certain age(women:20 years old and men:22 years old minimmun marrying age), there is state provided family planning, free sterilisation for couples who already had a kid, and abortions. in the case a family would have another child all of these benefits were revoked and punishments were set in. some of which include having higher taxes, having to choose over one child so they can have access to education, in their communities they were shunned and so on. one measure china took to look to report this people, was the use of the elderly people as vigilance in the community. this policy was mainly strict in big cities at the time such as shanghai, beijing, lanzhou whereas the country side was more relax. this was because there was a male over female preference. since many families in the countryside needed children for farming so it was preferable to for farm work. also families that had child with disabilities had a chance to have a chance to have another child. many. families that had a daughter give them away and. left to die. in the early 2000's families who could not conceive a child were allowed to adopt. this eventually lead to a gender disbalance, currently for every 100. females there is 114 males. there were also some other social problems such as the little emperor syndrome which arises from single children tend to be indulged and even spoilt and that can then affect them when they are older since not everything would be handed to them in a silver platter. on the long run there was also the 4-2-1 problem which consists of the child having to provide for their 4 grandparents and also their parents in the end this is a great economic burden levied on them. in the end by 2015 the fertility rate went down as low as 1.9 from the 2,5 that was in the 70's. it can be debated whether this policy was successful or not i believe it was successful to a certain extent

in october 21 1966 a coal mine. waste soil heap slid. down a mountain side into the mining village of aberfan, south wales. it engulfed a primary school about 20 houses in the village. overall there. was 132 casualties, 116 being children and 28 were adults.
caused by water accumulation in the soil heap. this lubricated the material and saturated clays are. unstable all this together that lead to the landslide. due to the extra water that added the pression and triggered the slope failure. this took place since days before landslide had taken place there has been high density in rainfall than normal. also this soil heap that was made from debris mining waste did not followed safety regulations. meaning it was already in a hazardous condition. no action had been taken before hand since it was expensive to move the mountain of debris from where it was.

urban- urban migration to Barra da tijuca.
barra da tijuca is 32km down the coast from rio and it was developed in the 1980's. the reason many are choosing to move to barra tijuca is because there are congestions and traffic jams all the time in rio due to the poor development of the city. since more people are living there, there is also more pollution- water pollution from disposable wastes from the city, air and noise pollution due to the extensive smoke released from the vehicles. since they have a high population in this case they also have high density so it's overcrowded which has left very low quality of life- not very good construction or really unsafe spaces since there is also a very high crime rate found in Rio. since there is not many. places to live in the city, many have moved to the favelas which dont have the basic running amenities such as electricity or clean water.
since Barra da tijuca was developed later it was more space and better city planning in comparison. there is also more modern housing found. there is more security, also doesnt have a heavy congestion like Rio since there is the existance of a motorway. there is also more job opportunities. overall better quality of living compared to Rio.

flower industry/ rose industry
its the lead exporter of rose cut flowers to EU with a market share. of 38%. this industry is profitable since it continues to attract investors due to the solid infrastructure. favorable. climate, global positioning of kenya in addition to a productive workforce.
this is an advantage for kenya since they are able to employ locals. there is an estimated that over 500,000 people. work. in the industry. also. taxes can be used by the government to invest in things such as healthcare services, improve public schooling among other things.
nevertheless there are some downsides to this. in most cases there are low wages and poor working conditions.the use of harmful chemicals such as artifitial fertilizers can poison the water and wetlands that will eventually make people that is intaking this water sick. also local water supply such as the lake naviasha would shrink due to the water. being uptaken for flower farming purposes. eventually leading to water shortages.
