Plan what you eat. Take time to eat. Eat meals with others. Enjoy your food.

Early in 2019 a new food guide was developed for Canadians. It was the first new edition in over a decade and put a focus on the "how to eat" not just the "what to eat". The purpose of this blog is to share your experiences with the new food guide through words, pictures, and videos. Like the food guide, if we share with others, we stand a chance to motivate others to be mindful of their eating and develop a healthy eating lifestyle.

Click on the picture below to check out the new Canada Food Guide!

I am loving the new food guide and the great updates they made. Teachers are role models for their students. As a role models, it's definitely important to set healthy examples in order to motivate them to make healthy choices. At my school we have a snack program that provides each classroom with snacks, but they aren't always a healthy option. The new food guide has emphasized to eat more vegetables than anything else from other food groups. Perhaps schools should be more mindful about these excellent healthy changes the Canadian government when offering food programs. Snacks like baby carrots, celery sticks and broccoli with some ranch sauce is far more nutritional than goldfish crackers and graham crackers. Thank you for allowing us to share our thoughts about this topic. All the best!

Life happens. Sometimes when we are busy and not able to cook a meal, we are forced to eat out at a restaurant. This however does not mean that we need to loosen our belt buckles and shovel down a couple of greasy hamburgers. There are always healthy options available that mirror the new Canada Food Guide, and are quick and delicious. This is a Bamboo Bowl from Freshii. It has brown rice, cilantro, broccoli, carrots, red cabbage and coconut. It's definitely a little more expensive, but its worth it!
