Yanek and his family live in Krackow polened but in just a blink of an eye, their city was invaded by the Germans beginning WW2, for now, he and his family remained in Krakow for a while that stays in a flat with several other families rules have been put in place that persecute Jewish people talking away rights they have over time walls are built up around the ghetto to contain the remaining Jews who have not been taken for resettlement or deportation yet 1 by 1 many Jews relocated to other Jewish ghettos work camps construction camps or killed on sight

Yaniks figurative Journey

With the stress of no food and constant hiding, Yannick is living in fear with the stress of being caught by the Nazis. His emotional state is one of constant Terror and panic that awaits him at every turn. The unknown aspect of the of the world leaves a feeling of unsettledness. Yannick's early life as a 10-year-old boy before the war was very normal. He attended school played with friends, and went to the synagogue with his family. This is Mom and Dad looks up to them but as we continues Yannick begins to doubt his father's constant hopefulness and positivity and wonders who is really right his father or Uncle Moshie.¨ I still worried he was wrong, but fresh bread made me forget all of my troubles for a little while, at least¨(pg25)doubting your parents for the first time is a struggle for Yannick especially in war-torn Poland.

after hiding for 3 years they brought him to a conservation camp to work before this they took his parents from him and he dose not know what to do luckily his uncle was at the same camp and his uncle toled him to work hard but don't stand out.

In chapter 13, Yannick takes a trip to the salt mine. As he gets out of the elevator, he takes a second to realize the true beauty of the statues in the salt mine. The next day, he is getting tired swinging and swinging the pickaxe. Soon, he sees a body on the floor covered in salt. He soon finds out that's the June rot that rated the house and took his mother's ring.

He is now at a new location tribe music on conservation camp one day Yanik and some other prisoners are tasked with moving a pile of rocks yannick vows that if they all went against him and tried to kill him he would fight back but a few minutes later one man fought back and died and brought others down with him the he realized it is better to die alone then too bring others with you.

When the train arrives at Birkenau, Yanek can smell burning flesh in the air. The train sits for hours before the prisoners are let out. Yanek feels as though this is another form of torture, to drive them to panic or madness. Finally, the door opens and the prisoners are marched toward a big brick building with chimneys. Yanek thinks about how much he’s done, how much he's already survived, only to have it taken all away by the Nazis. He begins to cry, wishing that he had let the Nazis kill him back in the ghetto.

Yannick figurative journey

Yanik is at his lowest point when he is in the shower he starts laughing like a crazy person but then water comes out now he does not want to die he is doing things to stay alive like showering every day and going last to get food so he can get the heavy stuff and when one other boy wants to end it he tells him that he can't let himself get torn from the pages of the world.

As they start the last March they each get half of the loaf of bread throughout the death March it gets harder and harder anyone that falls behind gets shot yannick sees this one guy about his age and it reminds him of Fred he thinks that he needs to help him because he is almost a Musliman ask Janet goes to help him the boy leans on him and he's dose just not know what to do so he just lets the boy do it and remembers his uncle's words to save himself but Yannick remembers Fread and remembers how he would and want this to happen for him if he ever became a mossolmen so he carried on with the guy leaning on his shoulder at the end of the day another man helps him when they finally get to where they're going to sleep he looks in his pocket and his bread is gone.

when he first arrived at the camp they gave him food after that they went to the barracks to go to sleep. They didn't have to work for a full 2 weeks for those two weeks they gave him extra food but the extra food gave them stomach aches and cramps after the 2 weeks were over there was this one guard they called him moon face and he kept pushing Yannick around almost like a schoolyard bully and he was beating him Yannick thought if this cat's going on he might die. In If You Wanted to Leave you had to win a race to prove that you were strong enough to work at a different camp I participated in the race but at the end, he had to act like he wasn't tired because he did not want to look weak

Yanek and the other prisoners look around the yard, not knowing what to do. Yanek has no home or family to go back to, and no way to get there. He wonders who would be kind to him, a Jew, considering that no one ever stood up for him before he was interned. Yanek realizes that although he and the other prisoners are free, they are still powerless.

Even in freedom, Yanek’s primary concern is the anti-Semitism that has been rampant not only in Germany and by the Nazis, but what he has seen from others. The Nazi regime’s cruelty has radiated outward to influence ordinary civilians, and so the Jewish prisoners are still unsafe regardless of their newfound freedom.

The prisoners were then marched to Auschwitz and then assembled in the yard. One Auschwitz prisoner tells them quietly that young people should say that they are 18, in good health, and have a trade. The family in front of Yanek in line, who have just arrived off the train, don’t understand the advice. The Nazi doctor, Josef Mengele interviews the man, who explains that his wife had pneumonia recently and that his son is only nine. Mengele tells the man to go to the right and the woman and boy to go to the left. The woman and boy protest, but soldiers keep them apart.

The Americans immediately take the survivors away from Dachau. They travel by train to Munich, where the Allies will house them temporarily. When Yanek is shown his new room, he asks how many people he has to share the bunk with. The soldier replies that he’ll have it to himself, which shocks# Yanek. He’s further amazed when the soldier gives him a blanket, a pillow, sheets, a washcloth, a cup, and a toothbrush. Yanek cries as he picks up the toothbrush, remembering the day at the water pump when he’d marveled at the luxury of this simple object. He feels that the Americans are granting him his life back.
