I knew the Olympic games originated from Greece, but I did not know that present day marathons were inspired from there. I thought it was interesting that it didn't even start out as a sport, it was just a solider running back to Athens, annoucing their victory. That is so crazy that after that people decided they wanted to run for that long for fun!
