He knows that he might not fit in perfectly and might also be behind the times, but he still makes a consistent effort to make people happy and improve the mood. This is something I try to incorporate into my own life because making people happy is always a good thing in my opinion. People who put on a fake smile and pander to their audience are untrustworthy in my eyes. This isn't to say I don't like people who are kind; I really do appreciate them. I find myself being friends with mostly kind people, and we enjoy doing things together that we know we really like. For example we won't go to a party we don't want to just because "everyone's going". My friends are both positive and negative mirrors in my life. I see their good and bad sides but I like to take them for what they are and focus on the person as a whole. I look up to these people because they have all taken initiative in helping the community for the better. Will Smith in particular heavily advocates for human rights, which is an issue that I also happen to be passionate about. Jon Stewart likes to express his critiques through humor, which is something that resonates with me because it shows an intellectual understanding of the issue. It led me to pursue a major in political science. Another event would be the shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson. It showed me how life really can be unfair sometimes and gave me perspective on what life could be like. The last event that helped shape me was the killing at Sandy Hook. I was the youngest kid in the family growing up, and I didn't have much success physically with them or my peers. It was hard to find something I was really good at, but it turned out I was pretty good at school. I got put in the "gifted" programs as a very young kid and it gave me a real path to achieve something. I owe that to education. Without it I know I'd be much different; I wouldn't be good at anything. The schooling system also provided friend groups, which really does mold your personality in a significant way. I've also met very influential people, most of them being teachers. Mr.Petersen and I email back and forth still sometimes and I haven't been his student for a year. Overall school has been a pretty successful endeavor for me. I've been able to do well in classes and make good friends, but I also think I could be learning more about myself. I spend so much time researching new people and new things that I think I lose the ability to slow down and think critically about myself, which I would say is the only real failure of my school experience. The most important thing I've learned in my opinion is how to cooperate with others. Every time you ask someone a question or work together on a project, its an opportunity to connect with them in a positive way. Little did I know a similar device would have a staggeringly large role in my everyday life. I never did like to watch the news on TV as a young kid, so I was pretty disconnected from reality. That changed when I was introduced to the internet. I was able to see all my friends on social media, learn about things in an interesting way online, and most importantly I was able to talk to anyone I wanted at the touch of a button. If I wasn't able to use my phone my life would involve going out pretty much every night since I'm so emotionally dedicated to communicating with people. I think I could handle it but I definetley couldn't go without communication. Overall, media has had a positive effect on my life. We let the dog in the car and tracked down its owner to return it. This taught me how rewarding it can be to do good for others, because seeing how happy they were reunited made me glad we decided to help. Another experience I had was in fourth grade, particularly when the whole school was obsessed with Silly Bandz, if you don't know, they're just thin rubber bracelets that take the shape of animals. I saved up all my money for weeks and went to the store with my mom to buy as many of those things as I possibly could. After doing so I realized how much I actually hated them, mostly due to the fact that they're just weak rubber bands.
