The writer Kim Velsey counter argues many of the arguments made by John Burtin. Many of his arguments were about how good gentrification is to the cities it is happening in. She brings out evidence from  The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal in order to support her arguments on why gentrification is not very good to those low income families. She mainly focuses on the gentrification going on in New York and she makes sure to mention how the neighborhoods " have become richer and whiter" to allow us to see how gentrification is not really benefiting everyone. This ties in with her racial segregation and poverty main argument she has throughout the whole article. She gives us the data on how the median household income rose from 44,987 to 56,436 in just 12 years as well as there being a rise of 13% of more whites in those new gentrified areas while the blacks shrunk 15%.
