In this piece, there is a small bottle of alcohol I found on a sidewalk underneath the bridge on Grand Ave. I wanted to put the camera at the same angle as the bottle is laying to make the picture more intimate. I put the photo in black and white because I didn't want to make this picture very enlightening. Black and white often makes pictures look desolate because there is no color. The meaning I attempted to capture is a meaning of pain. According to a study by West Virginia University, "self-medication for other problems carries over to alcohol ingestion." Alcohol can ease physical and emotional pain (Alcohol Awareness). Though, is not the healthiest mechanism. Relating to imagism, this image is simple, like poems focusing on imagism. There is no unnecessary items in this image similar to how there is no unnecessary words in an imagism poem.

In this piece, I try to make the reader imagine a busy Chicago or Minneapolis or New York scene full of people and life and noises. I did not want to write a poem about nature and trees and rivers because thats not me, and I do not go out in nature enough to write about it. I started out stating the weather because that really sets the scene. Once you know what kind of weather it is, then you can start to piece together all the details. At the end of the poem, it says "with an absence of nature." I wrote that to keep any images of trees, bushes, flowers, and leaves out of the reader's mind. I wanted the image to be focused on the absence of nature. Arguably, every sentence in this piece gives more detail to the end result of an image, which is what the goal of Imagism is, to paint a picture with no unnecessary words.

In this piece, there is a red, white, and blue pencil, on purposely, with no erasers. The meaning behind this photo is, "America cannot erase the terrible things we've done." The red, white, and blue represent the USA. I edited the photo to make the colors stick out to focus the attention more on the colors instead of the fact that they are pencils. I also lowered the brightness and raised the shadows to not make the picture look too happy, becuase I want the subject to be seen as a problem, that we made big mistakes and hurt people and we cant go back no matter what. On the pencils, there isn't enough of an eraser to erase anything, symbolizing that America cannot erase what it's done. Tying this photo into imagism, the words in the background aren't clear enough to read, which helps to not tell the reader what to think about the picture.

In this poem, my goal is to make the reader think of a gym or stadium getting ready for a game to be played. The place is packed, the players haven't yet come out for warmups but the crowd is ready. When I first wrote this poem, it started off with "A small gym stretching and bending..." I decided to take that away because then I would be telling the audience that this is takes place in a gym or stadium. A point of imagism is to not tell the reader what to think. But I do make the title "Game Day" because that gives some indication that this poem is about a game.

The goal of Imagism is to get rid of the non-physical things like pain, distress, nervousness, and explain more concrete physical things. Imagism "...aimed to replace abstractions with concrete details that could be further expounded upon through the use of figuration"(A Brief Guide to Imagism). The goals of imagism are: "To give direct treatment of the "thing" whether subjective or objective, To use absolutely no word that does not contribute to the presentation, and to compose in sequence the musical phrase, not in sequence of the metronome." In this collection, there is a poem called "untitled city." The meaning behind the poem is an image of a busy city street. The second poem is titled "Game Time." It gives the reader an image of a busy athletic complex getting ready for a big game, hence the title. There are two photos in this piece. The first is a picture of a small bottle of alcohol on the sidewalk. It gives the vibe of pain and a broken person, drinking their pain away, which didn't work. The second image is three pencils in red, white, blue with no erasers. The message behind that picture is about America. America has made bad decisions in the past. We've put people in slavery, we've lynched innocent humans, took land from Native Americans, and much more. What the picture is saying is, the damage is already done and there is nothing we can do now that will make up for what happened. Poems and pieces that don't include imagism aren't necessarily bad, its just the author is telling the reader what to think or feel. The beauty of imagism is that the reader is given details of an image but it is up to the reader to decide what he or se sees.
